Caroline E. Chandler, 78, of Hamilton Road, Corning, NY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at the Corning Center.

Born on May 30, 1947, in Corning, she was the daughter of the late Reverend Leland H. Southard and Irma Wood Southard. A proud graduate of Corning East High School, Caroline went on to marry the love of her life, Frederick W. Chandler, and together they built a life centered around love, home, and family.

Caroline's greatest joy was found in caring for those she loved. Her warmth, selflessness, and quiet strength left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel like family and was affectionately known as "Grandma" to many beyond her own.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Frederick Chandler; her children, Michelle Wood and Curtis (Karen) Chandler; and her cherished grandchildren, Amber (Joe) Wood, Brian Wood, Kayla (Troy) Wood, Kurtis (Amanda) Chandler, Gabrielle Chandler, and Wyatt Chandler. She also leaves behind countless others who lovingly adopted her as their grandmother and mom.

Caroline is also survived by her siblings: Rebecca (Bob) Elliott, Stephen Southard, Sheila Southard, Esther (Robert) Hoose, and Thomas Southard; as well as many nieces and nephews whom she held close to her heart.

She was predeceased by her parents and siblings: Floyd Lovejoy, Betty Lovejoy Hall, Harry Southard, Carol Paul, Darleen Southard, and Harold Southard.

Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Acly-Stover Funeral Home, 327 E. 2nd Street, Corning. A graveside service will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

Mr. Burdick

July 22, 2025

My son had been hanging out with this really polite kid who would address me as "Mr.Burdick" even as an adult he carries that on whenever a chance we meet. It wasn´t long after meeting him that I had the opportunity to meet his loving parents. As I walked into their home Caroline immediately jumped up from her seat at the table and rushed forward with a very welcoming smile. Fred remained seated as she bustled about asking if I wanted anything, I declined at first but being the welcoming kind hearted person she was I found myself conceding and accepting a nice cold glass of lemon are (at least that´s what remembered you can correct me Curtis if my addled brain committed a faux pa. At any rate the conversations were glowing happy and I found that my son couldn´t have picked a finer friend. He certainly got his smile and warmth of heart from his very special mom. Caroline Chandler there´s a glee club hanging out up there waiting for you. With Fond and Thankful memories I wish you Caroline many blessings. John

This description aptly conveys the heart and grace of the very loving person who treated my son as her own. Caroline opened. Her arms comforted him and many others over the years. With sincere condolences John and Renie Burdick.
