Carolyn was one of the first people that I met when I was hunting for a home in the Greenbrier Valley. We were moving here from Colorado for Maj to accept a JROTC position. Both Maj and I did not want to live in a subdivision. We were interested in living in a more rural setting.
We did not know anyone here, so, after dealing with realtors, I found myself looking for homes and possibilities by driving around communities. This is when Carolyn met me. She invited me, a complete stranger, into her home and talked to me about possible places to live. She mentioned that Bob and Charlotte Miller, her neighbors in Sinks Grove, might have a home to rent to us. They did.
I can give Carolyn and Bob and Charlotte Miller full credit for the fact that we have lived in the Greenbrier Valley for over thirty years. They welcomed us into their homes, their churches and their community. Later on, our son became part of the Monroe Swine Club. As a family, we each have happy memories of life in the pig barn. Bob and Carolyn Canterbury and Bob and Carol Groves are a big part of that.
I share all this to pay tribute to Carolyn's life and the influence she had on her community, her church and yes, even 4-Hers. I am proud to have known her.
Darel and I extend our sympathy to Carolyn's family and pray that they may be comforted by happy memories.
