SINKS GROVE, WV – Carolyn Ann Neely Canterbury, 79, of Sinks Grove, West Virginia, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, July 5, 2025, surrounded by her devoted family.
Born on December 26, 1945, in Charleston, WV, Carolyn was the cherished daughter of the late Robert Lee and Virginia Isabel Peters Neely. She was a devoted homemaker, a steadfast member of Sinks Grove Baptist Church, and the heart of the Canterbury family farm, which she stewarded alongside her beloved husband of sixty years, Robert "Bob" Lemons Canterbury. Together, they built a legacy, nurturing cattle and sheep on their renowned Sinks Grove property.
Carolyn's passion for agriculture shone brightly at the State Fair of West Virginia, where she was a beloved figure in the pig barn. For many years, she and her family dedicated themselves to breeding, raising, and selling both market and purebred show pigs. Her expertise was well known and widely respected-if you sought her opinion or guidance, she shared her wisdom generously and candidly.
Carolyn's life was marked by deep faith, unwavering love for her family, and a spirit of hospitality that touched all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her treasured daughter, Tina Canterbury Tuckwiller; her sister, Margaret Banton; and her brothers, Ron Neely and Robert L. Neely Jr.
Those who remain to honor and cherish her memory include her devoted husband, Bob; her son, Doug Canterbury (Debra); and her daughter, Paula Hines (Michael). Carolyn's grandchildren-Tyler Canterbury (Taylor), Brandon Tuckwiller (Kaylee), Brianna Tuckwiller (Richie), Adyson Hines, Megan Canterbury, and Kadyn Hines-held a special place in her heart, as did her two "special" great-grandsons, Alden and Lucas Holliday. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law, Dale Banton and Bill Canterbury (Carolyn); her sisters-in-law, Penny Neely and Carol Spence; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of friends.
Carolyn's life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and community. She leaves behind a rich legacy of kindness, knowledge, and devotion that will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at the Morgan Funeral Home, Lewisburg, WV. Funeral service will be held at the Morgan Funeral Home, Lewisburg, WV at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, July 9, 2025, with Pastor Vince Deeds and Pastor Roger "Wahoo" McDaniel officiating. Burial will follow in the Sinks Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making donations to the Sinks Grove Baptist Church c/o Morgan Funeral Home – 252 Montvue Drive, Lewisburg, WV 24901. Carolyn was one of the first people that I met when I was hunting for a home in the Greenbrier Valley. We were moving here from Colorado for Maj to accept a JROTC position. Both Maj and I did not want to live in a subdivision. We were interested in living in a more rural setting.

We did not know anyone here, so, after dealing with realtors, I found myself looking for homes and possibilities by driving around communities. This is when Carolyn met me. She invited me, a complete stranger, into her home and talked to me about possible places to live. She mentioned that Bob and Charlotte Miller, her neighbors in Sinks Grove, might have a home to rent to us. They did.

I can give Carolyn and Bob and Charlotte Miller full credit for the fact that we have lived in the Greenbrier Valley for over thirty years. They welcomed us into their homes, their churches and their community. Later on, our son became part of the Monroe Swine Club. As a family, we each have happy memories of life in the pig barn. Bob and Carolyn Canterbury and Bob and Carol Groves are a big part of that.

I share all this to pay tribute to Carolyn's life and the influence she had on her community, her church and yes, even 4-Hers. I am proud to have known her.

Darel and I extend our sympathy to Carolyn's family and pray that they may be comforted by happy memories.
