DOVER – Carolyn Downes Clinton, 86, passed away comfortably on July 1 in Atlanta, GA. She was born and raised in Delaware and lived most of her life near Derby Pond. Carolyn spent the past several years in Atlanta where she resided at Clairmont Oaks Independent Senior Living Community. She was a 1956 graduate of Caesar Rodney High School and retired after a long career with the State of Delaware's Department of Transportation as an administrative supervisor in the computer services division.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents George and Myrtle Downes of Dover and sister Barbara Shrider of Cincinnati, OH. She is survived by her daughter Shelley Kerr of Atlanta, her son Allen Clinton and his wife Lyn Clinton of Atlanta, two grandchildren Grace and Jay Clinton, three step-grandchildren Wyatt, Everett, and Cary Schroeder, and sister Sandra Clark and her husband Dean Clark in Hurricane, WV.
Carolyn was known for her special love of her family, dancing, reading, music (especially Elvis Presley), watching golf, and later in life occasionally sneaking out for a strawberry milkshake. She will be buried next to her parents at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Camden during a private graveside service. Prior to her death, Carolyn asked that her family and friends remember the good times and not send flowers.
