Carolyn Faye Preast Woods Obituary

Mrs. Carolyn Faye Preast Woods, age 91, of LaGrange, passed away on June 30, 2025. Mrs. Woods was born on September 22, 1933 in LaGrange to the late Lawrence Preast and Corinne Hamrick Preast. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Gay and a brother, Wayne Preast.
Survivors include her husband, Rev. Stanley Woods; children, Terri Cason (Charles), Karen Kochanowicz (Chris) and Sheila Allen (Ryan); grandchildren, Jeremy Bulfin, Matthew Cason, Savannah Kochanowicz and Luke Kochanowicz; great-grandchildren, Liam Bulfin, Emma Cason and McKenna Cason;
After graduating early from high school and with parental consent, she moved to Washington D.C. to work for the FBI. This started her federal public service career which lasted over 4 decades ending with the Social Security Administration here in LaGrange.
Through the years, she played the organ at several churches that she was a member of including 2nd Baptist, New Hope Baptist and Dunson Baptist. Until recent years due to health reasons, she was actively involved in women's Bible studies and WMU at 2nd Baptist and Dunson Baptist churches.
Carolyn enjoyed cooking and was an excellent cook. She looked forward to holidays and special occasions when her family would be around. Nothing brought her more pleasure than to spend time with her children and grandchildren living, loving and laughing. She believed strongly in finding the humor in things. One of her favorite foods to eat was fried catfish and she passed that love on down to her children. She also loved to travel and went on numerous trips with her husband, daughters, church groups and senior groups.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 6, 2025 at 3:00 pm at the Higgins Funeral Home at Hunter Allen Myhand Chapel with Pastor Mike Hornsby and Pastor Kenneth Cole officiating. Private interment services will be held at Shadowlawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Sunday at the funeral home from 2:00-3:00 pm.
