Carolyn Neam, age 89, was called home to be with her Lord on June 28th, 2025. She will be missed so dearly by her family and friends.
Carolyn was born on December 20th, 1935, in Evansville, Indiana where she grew up with her loving parents and sister, Marge. Her given name was Elizabeth, after her mother and grandmother, but her parents always called her by her middle name, Carolyn. Carolyn was a passionate teacher who loved constantly learning herself. She earned her Master's degree and taught school in Detroit, Canada, and even Europe. She always kept up with world events and important issues, and adored traveling the world she loved with the many, many friends she made in her life. She traveled to nearly every country in Europe, to the Middle East and North Africa, to South America, and to Australia, and she did so even into her early 80's. While traveling brought her so much joy, it was her dear friends and family that brought her the most. She was always active and adventurous with her friends, whether it was her bowling league or golf with her closest gal pals, bridge club with yet another set of close friends, or casual lunches, activities and coffees with the many other friends drawn to her kind, down to earth, and giving spirit.
Carolyn met and married the love of her life, Peter, in her early 40s. They were married in 1978 at St. Maron Church in Detroit. This began an entirely new and joyous stage of her life together with Peter. Together they raised their son, John, and built a wonderful life for each other and John in Troy, MI. Peter sadly passed away in 2004. It was a very hard time for her and John, but true to Carolyn's courageous spirit she continued to live a full life over the next 20 years like Peter would have wanted. She continued to grow, learn, travel, and challenge herself. She welcomed her new daughter (and friend) Bridget in 2008, and guided Bridget and John as they started their life together, including raising Carolyn's two grandchildren, William and Audrey.
Carolyn's faith was the guiding light in her life. She loved God and her church, and she truly lived every day of her life following in the footsteps of Jesus.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband Peter Neam; father Daniel Titzer; mother Elizabeth (Betty) Titzer; sisters in law Sarah Neam and Dolly Neam, and brothers in law Tony Neam and Larry Schuch.
Carolyn is survived by her son and daughter in law John and Bridget Neam; grandchildren William and Audrey Neam; her sister Margaret (Marge) Schuch; her many nieces and nephews who also helped care for her in her final years; and her many close friends.
Funeral will be Thursday, July 3rd, 2025 instate beginning at 9:00am until time of her funeral mass at 11:00am at St. Sharbel Maronite Catholic Church, 43888 Hayes Rd., Clinton Township, 48038.
