Carroll Joseph Hanner, age 89, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2025. He was born on January 23, 1936, to the late Barney Matthew Hanner and Corinne Theresa Goux. Carroll is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 61 years, Kathleen Regan Hanner, siblings, Mildred C. Ziegler, Mary Hanner Hirdes, Barney (B.M.), Benny P., and Alfred A. Hanner, and his son, Glen M. Hanner. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and mentor. Carroll is survived by his son, Carroll "Chris" Hanner (Patricia), and daughter-in-law, Sandra B. Hanner. Grandfather of Gregory M. Hanner (Shanna), Brian N. Hanner, Jason P. Hanner and Jenny Montecino. Great-grandfather of Eliza and Elliott Hanner and Jolyn and Christopher Montecino. Godfather of Holly Beaulieau and Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Carroll served in the U.S. Navy as a navigator and was honorably discharged in 1962. He enjoyed attending air shows featuring the Blue Angels. Carroll worked for ADT for nearly 40 years until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion and River Ridge Bromeliad Society. He won many "Best of Show" awards for his bromeliads and had an extensive greenhouse. He was a wealth of knowledge from fixing cars to growing plants and was a tremendous support to his family and friends. Carroll and Kathy loved to travel around the world. He enjoyed the outdoors, spear fishing, scuba diving, and deep-sea fishing. He was an accomplished photographer, both video and portrait. Later in life, he developed a passion for oil painting and was a talented artist. He was a parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena in Metairie. The family wishes to thank the staff of Southeast LA Veterans Home and Serenity Hospice for the care they provided. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd.,
New Orleans, LA 70124, followed by a mass at 1:00 pm. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
