Carter James Cammack was born December 16, 1969, in Deadwood, SD, the son of Charles and Joy Dell Cammack. He lived with his family in Buffalo, SD, until the winter of 1971, when they moved to Arco, Idaho, so his dad could work for Grandpa Cammack at the Arco Advertiser.
Carter (Carty to family and childhood friends) grew up a "shop rat", spending many days after school and late nights at the paper office. He and his older sister also went with
their dad to help mom at closing time in the various restaurants where she worked when the kids were young. Carter and his friends hiked hundreds of miles up and down the
Number Hill, and pedaled countless others around town on their bikes. Carter attended Butte County schools, graduating in 1988. After a semester at ISU, he returned to Arco,
working at the paper and volunteering with the Arco Fire Department.
In his late 20s, Carter battled non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, requiring an extended stay in Boise. Following his treatment, he stayed in the Treasure Valley. He held different jobs
in the area, but he tended to gravitate toward work that involved one of his favorite things– cars– working at an auto auction and at different car dealerships.
In 2020, Carter moved back to Arco to help care for his mom. After her passing, he stayed in Arco, and he began working at Dragonfly Tarps. He also helped print the Advertiser every Wednesday. Carter enjoyed spending time with friends and family, discussing a myriad of topics, and sharing witty comments and many, many puns.
Carter was known for his creativity. He wrote greeting cards and screen plays, and he holds patents for different inventions. His mind was always working. He was also known for his kindness; friends and family alike remember his supportive words, his caring heart, and his willingness to listen. Carter loved Christ, and his faith carried him through many battles, including his battle with liver cancer.
On June 26, 2025, Carter left this world to be with Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chuck and Joy Dell, and his paternal and maternal grandparents. He is survived by his sister, Kim Cammack, his niece, Raegan (Isaiah) Carlton, his nephew, Christopher (Apryl) Lengle, aunts and uncles, and many cousins. He is also survived by his friends-brother and sister from another mother-Jeff Braswell and Lisa Braswell.
A Celebration of Carter's life will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, with the time to be determined shortly. Arrangements are under the direction of the Anderson Family Funeral Home.
