Casimir Rakunas Obituary

Casimir "Casey" Rakunas was born on July 25, 1938, at Holy Cross Hospital on the south side of Chicago. He grew up in the Marquette Park neighborhood with his brothers, Fredrick (Fred) and Lawrence (Larry). Casey graduated from St. Rita High School in 1956 and earned a degree in Biology from Loyola University Chicago in 1960. He also served in the Army Reserves.

Casey's career included work at Luther General Hospital, the Campbell Soup Company, and later at a German restaurant in Frankfort. During his younger years, he was a dedicated helper in his parents' general store, especially throughout college and the early part of his career.

He lovingly helped care for his father, Charlie, alongside his mother, Bernice, for many years. Casey was a devoted neighbor and friend, known for his kind heart, his vegetable garden, and his volunteer work at St. Scholastica Church in Woodridge.

In his later years, Casey made his home at Villa St. Benedict, where he enjoyed a warm and welcoming community and formed new friendships.

He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Visitation will be Monday, August 11, 10:00-11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Monastery Chapel, 1910 Maple Ave., Lisle. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM. A private family inurnment will be at a later date at St. Casimir Cemetery in Chicago, IL.
