Funeral service for Catherine C. Thompson, "Kunsi" a a wi Waterfall Woman, 69, of
Sisseton, South Dakota will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Kateri Hall,
Sisseton, SD with a meal to follow. Officiating will be Louis Johnson, Mikey Peters, Jacob LaBlanc, and All Spiritual Leaders. Drum group will be All Singers. Pall Bearers will be Ronnie Skjonsberg, Brian Eder, Jamison Pratt, Melvin Waupoose, Jerald Redbuffalo, Delray German, Eric Shepherd, Freeman Hawk, Nathan Smith, Elijah BlackThunder, Ohitika BlackThunder, Osisica BlackThunder, Wicahpi BlackThunder, Michael Keoke, Mni sosi Hoksina Waupoose, Wiley Pumpkinseed, Wakinyan Knight, and Wakangli Knight. Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements. Catherine Carleen Thompson was born on October 9, 1955, to Clifford Thompson and Violet Blossom (Shepherd) Thompson in
Sisseton, SD. She was baptized at St. Catherines Church in
Sisseton, SD. During her K-10 years, she attended the school in Browns Valley, MN. Catherine then attended and graduated from Stephan Misson. To further her education, she obtained an AA General Studies degree from Haskell Indian Nations University. In her life, Catherine had married Thomas LaBlanc Sr. And Everett BlackThunder Sr. and from these unions came her children: Thomas "Sonny" LaBlanc Jr, Elijah BlackThunder, Blossom BlackThunder, and Everett BlackThunder Jr. She has lived in Sisseton, Oklahoma, and Flandreau during the different phases of her life. Catherine worked at many different places; the BIA Area Office, Tribal Elderly Program, Community Health Education, B.V. Family Services, TZ 21st Century After School Program, was the Director at the Little Voices Group Home, an Advocate at Women's Circle, and a cook at Dakotah Pride. Catherine enjoyed sewing, beading, participating in Traditional activities, spending time with family (but mostly Takoja's), and watching the Vikings and Suns play. Catherine was a part of the Dakota Dance clan and placed at the gathering of Nations as a traditional dancer. Catherine is survived by her children Thomas "Sonny" LaBlanc Jr, Elijah BlackThunder, Blossom BlackThunder, and Everett BlackThunder Jr; brothers Jacob Thompson and Nathan Thompson; sisters Susan James and Jennie Fleury; grandchildren Jacob LaBlanc, Jordyn LaBlanc, Violet LaBlanc, Michael Keoke, Cetan Keoke, Natians Keoke, Kindred Buckanaga, Grace Gill, Memory BlackThunder, Elijah BlackThunder Jr, Alena BlackThunder, Bria BlackThunder, Alily BlackThunder, Benny Snow BlackThunder, Waki yan Knight, Wakangli Knight, Osisica "Storm" BlackThunder, Wiha mna BlackThunder, Yossiana BlackThunder, Wiley Pumpkinseed, Tehinda Pumpkinseed, Ohitika BlackThunder, Wiyakpa BlackThunder, Wicahpi BlackThunder; great-grandkids Ha wiya pa LaBlanc, and "Baby" vi Shepherd; nephews Edwin Thompson, Sheldon Thompson, Ambrose Thompson, Hazen Lamere, and Kardsten Squirrelcoat; nieces Gina Motah, Tina Motah, April Thompson, Susan Redday, Jessica Squirrelcoat, Angeline Squirrelcoat, Carleen Vigil, and Charlene Vigil. Catherine is proceeded in death by her parents Clifford and Violet (Shepherd) Thompson; maternal grandparents Esther Harriet Ortley and Hazen Preston Shepherd; paternal grandparents Susan DeMarrias and Edward Thompson; brothers Edward "Milton" Redowl, Eddie Dean Thompson, and Clifford Thompson Jr; sisters Colleen Thompson-Vigil, Alvara Enoch, Rita Holybull; nephew Sheridan Vigil; and niece Rondeena Smith.
