Cathy Dawkins Bullard entered her heavenly home on Monday, July 7, 2025 after a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Born in Rockingham, NC on January 6, 1959, Cathy was the daughter of the late Lewis and Bobbie Dawkins.
From an early age, she loved music and singing and would later use these talents to sing God's praises in the church choir. After spending her childhood in Rockingham, she moved to Easley, SC to start a family and raised three amazing children. She worked in the human resources department of World Finance in Greenville, SC for many years until retiring from there once her children were grown. She had always wanted to travel and see the world and her next job as an over the road truck driver gave her that opportunity. Her favorite travel partner was her cat Abbey and the two of them would make many trips across the country listening to country music. When her mother Bobbie passed away, she moved back to Rockingham and reconnected with her past sweetheart Larry Bullard. They married in 2017 and moved into her childhood home where she happily spent the rest of her days.
Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Bobbie Dawkins, and her brother Robin Dawkins. She is survived by her husband Larry Bullard of the home; brother, Corey Dawkins of Rockingham; sons, Zachary and Lucas Henderson of Easley, SC; daughter, Jenna Henderson of Simpsonville, SC; daughters-in-law, Jill and Liz Henderson; stepson; Brandon Bullard of Wadesboro; six grandchildren, Brailynne Henderson, Ryann Henderson, Katie Pierson, Maggie Pierson, Luke Henderson and Lydee Henderson; and many special nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
She was a member of the choir and congregation at Second Baptist Church in Hamlet and very much loved the people she met and the time she spent there.
Cathy loved cooking and was always looking for new recipes and sharing her favorites with others. Born with a green thumb, she could make any kind of plant grow and every room in her house was full of beautiful plants and flowers. She loved fresh vegetables from the garden and picking blueberries from the vine in her backyard. She also liked to sew and made special quilts for her grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Richmond County Hospice and the staff of Hospice Haven for their gracious care and support during Cathy's final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you honor Cathy with a donation to hospice in her memory so that others may receive the same compassionate care: Richmond County Hospice Haven, 1119 N US Hwy 1, Rockingham, NC 28379.
A celebration of Cathy's life is planned for Saturday July 12, 2025 at 12:00 noon at Second Baptist Church, 518 4th St, Hamlet, NC 28345, with visitation prior to the service at 11:00am.
The family will receive friends at her home 114 Skyline Drive Rockingham, NC 28379.
