Cathy Nickerson Obituary

Cathy Leigh Nickerson, 71, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2025. Funeral services are scheduled for 10am, Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Pentecostal Temple Church in Amarillo. A viewing will take place from 5-7pm, Friday, August 29, 2025, at LaGrone Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Martin Road Chapel.

Cathy was born on September 11, 1953, in Cambridgeshire, England, to James Elijah Green and Charlotte Marcella Davis. She graduated from Alamo Catholic High School in 1971 before continuing her education at Amarillo College, where she earned an associate’s degree in business. Cathy built a dedicated career, working for 20 years at MESA Inc. as a word processing specialist. In 1996, she began her own business as a professional résumé writer and secretary, faithfully serving others in this role until her passing. On October 27, 1973, Cathy married the love of her life, Kingery Nickerson. Together, they shared nearly 52 years of marriage filled with love, partnership, and devotion to their family.

Cathy had a passion for travel, whether exploring internationally or making frequent trips between Dallas and Atlanta to visit her children and grandchildren. She also delighted in simple joys, such as visiting beauty stores and finding new treasures in hair and beauty supplies. Though naturally quiet, Cathy’s heart was full of warmth, joy, and generosity. She was known for her giving spirit—often preparing care packages and offering financial help to those in need. Above all, her deep faith was the cornerstone of her life. She loved the Lord and her church, and her devotion was evident in the way she lived and cared for others. Cathy will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and a faithful servant of God whose kindness and selflessness touched all who knew her.

Cathy is preceded in death by her parents, James Elijah Green and Charlotte Marcella Green.

Survivors left to cherish Cathy’s beloved memory are her husband, Kingery Nickerson, of Amarillo, Texas; her daughters, Natalie Johnson and husband Billy, of Monroe, Georgia and Brooke Henderson and husband, Roland, of Ferris, Texas; her stepson, Tarius Wilson, of Amarillo, Texas; her sister, Carolynn Adams, of Amarillo, Texas; her grandchildren, Mia Johnson and Brianna Miller and her nephews, Samuel Mitchell, Phoenix Green and Elijah Green.
