In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by loving husband of 38 years, Bobby Gene Owens; brother, Jerry Neely; sisters, Gail Garmon and Pam Gleaves.
She is survived by daughter, Lee Ann Neely (Jamen) McGranahan; step-children, Robert L. Owens, and Dana Dodson; grandchildren, Landon Owen McGranahan and Mia Grace McGranahan; companion and fiancé, Gail Morton; sisters, Donna Armes and Linda Neely; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Cathy was a 1975 graduate of McGavock High School. Her professional journey took her through various fields including being an Administrative Assistant for Trevecca Nazarene University, helping run her late husband's printing shop, and finally, being a stay-at-home "Gran Gran" to her grandbabies- her favorite job of all.
She found immense joy in several things ranging from hosting family and friends during the holidays such as Halloween and Christmas to preparing the most amazing meals to dancing and singing at The Briar Patch. Cooking and baking were her favorite, especially cutting out and icing her famous Christmas cookies. Cathy's biggest passion of all was ensuring her family was taken care of, especially her grandbabies. Landon and Mia were her everything, and her life revolved around their world... and spontaneous Sonic runs for her daily Diet Coke. She was a source of unwavering support for them, always ensuring they knew the depth of her love.
Gran Gran never missed a birthday, ballgame, graduation, school function, holiday, family gathering or vacation opportunity. It was expected that she had an open invitation to all special occasions and she never failed to demonstrate how much her family and friends meant to her, evidence that she was fiercely devoted to them.
Mrs. Cathy cherished Jesus, her family, and her dear friends above all else. A faithful servant of the Lord and previous longtime member of Donelson Church of the Nazarene, she was often found singing in the choir and devoting her time praying for those in need. Cathy lived a life rich in faith, family, and love, leaving behind a legacy that forever will be cherished.
She will always be remembered for her sweet smile and laugh that could carry a room, her selfless servant's heart, her hugs that could cure it all, and the way she lived every day of her life looking forward to the promise of Heaven. Her presence will be missed but we rejoice knowing she is in Heaven and no longer burdened or suffering, reunited with the love of her life and those that have gone on before her.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Quality Care for Rehabilitation and Healing for the wonderful care given to Mrs. Cathy during her extended stay, as well as Gentiva Hospice.
