Cecilia Barrone Obituary

CECILIA BARRONE
November 22, 1931 - July 20, 2025
It is with profound reverence that we celebrate the life of our extraordinary mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Cecilia M. Barrone, who ascended to eternal peace on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at her home in Taos, NM, with her loving husband by her side.
Cecilia grew up in Santa Fe, surrounded by a loving and supportive family that instilled in her a strong sense of values and compassion. As the eldest of nine siblings, she learned the importance of responsibility, leadership, and the value of close relationships.
Her educational journey began at Loretto Academy and culminated in her graduation from Santa Fe High School. She later moved to Los Alamos to pursue a career at the Lab, where she had the privilege of supporting eight Lab Directors in the Mail and Records Division and later as a subcontractor with Comforce Technical Services Inc. Throughout her tenure, she forged lasting friendships that brought joy and fulfillment to her life.
In 1952, Cecilia married Dan, and together they built a loving home in the Pojoaque Valley, filled with love and cherished memories. Cecilia and Dan celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary this year-a testament to their enduring love and commitment.
She had a profound love for her family and found immense joy in hosting gatherings, cooking and baking special meals, and nurturing her garden. Her legacy of love, kindness, and generosity continues to inspire all who knew her.
Cecilia was preceded in death by her parents, Lucy and Julio Montoya; aunts Ursula Hayter (Sydney), Mattie Frymouth, and Pelegrina Padilla (Levi); uncle Delfino Sandoval; brothers Michael Montoya, Gilbert Montoya, and Ernest Montoya; sisters Isabel Sanchez and Marcella (Isaac) Romero; granddaughter Patricia Roybal Zubiate; and grandson Dan Dan Barrone.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 73 years, Dan Barrone; her children Pam Barrone of Taos, Margie Tapia (Ed) of Pojoaque, Daniel Barrone (Della) of Taos, and Barbara Gordon (William) of Magdalena.
She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Tim Seay (Olga), Emilie Freeman, Lucy Freeman (Justin Garcia), Victoria Tapia, Daneeca Vazquez (Joel), Diego Barrone (Eden), Rachel Barrone (Dan Dan–deceased), Devon Gordon (Doni), Warren Gordon (Larissa), and Danielle Gordon.
Her great-grandchildren: Jeremy, Sophia (Ivan), Zachary, Noah, Anthony, Alexandria, Jezekiah, Daniel, Damascus, Michael, Josh, Adam, JJ, Cecilia, Annalise, Bar, Kacilyn, and Devon. Great-great-granddaughter: Carolina.
Cecilia is also survived by three siblings: Victoria Romero (Manuel–deceased) of Santa Fe, Rosina Romero (Pat) of Las Vegas, and Tony Montoya (DiAnn) of Los Alamos.
Surviving in-laws include Ernest Sanchez (Isabel–deceased) of Bosque Farms and Anita Montoya (Ernest–deceased) of Santa Fe. Cecilia also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at 10:30AM, followed by the Holy Rosary at 11:00AM and the Mass of Christian Burial at 12:15PM at Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Catholic Church in Pojoaque, NM.
Burial will follow at 2:30PM at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
