Deacon Charles Henry Chandler Jr., 71 of Laurel, Delaware, departed his life on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at his residence. He was born on August 4, 1952, to the late Charles Henry Chandler Sr. and Lottie Mae Mills Chandler. Charles was the fifth of seven children. He was affectionately known as "June" or "Chan" to family and friends.
Deacon Charles Chandler Was a member of Storm Shelter Ministries, he held the office of Deacon and sang on the praise team. He taught the praise team one of his favorite songs "We've Come a Long Way" which he led. He was baptized on October 22, 2023, and served the Lord faithfully.
Charles was educated in the Indian River School District and was employed by Fashion Floors in Berlin, MD for 15 years until their closing. On April 23, 2023, after 30 years of service, Charles retired from The City of Rehoboth as 3rd in charge of the wastewater department.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and had many hobbies. He took great pleasure in maintaining his vehicles and possessions. Baseball and basketball were his favorite hobbies.
Charles leaves to cherish precious memories, his loving wife of 46 years Sandra Chandler; five daughters, Emma Eley, Sharonda Chandler, Yniece Chandler, Tasha Eley, Tisha Eley all of Laurel, DE; three sons, Shawn Johnson of Frankford, DE, Charles Deloach (Sandra) Greenwood DE, Monquail Sturgis of Berlin, MD; five sisters, Mary O'Neal of Berlin, MD, Sarah Jacobs (Robert) of Berlin, MD, Beulah Chandler, Gloria Handy, Sherry Sturgis (Montgomery) all of Selbyville, DE; one brother, Brenston Chandler (Ty) of Georgetown, DE. Four brother-in- laws, Raphus Eley (Marie) of Ellendale DE, Michael Eley (Roberta) of Coolspring, DE, Leonard Eley (Dorian) of Laurel, DE, Herbert Eley (Robin) Millsboro, DE; three sister- in- laws Caroline Burton of Milton DE, Jean Johnson (James) of Harbeson, DE, Jeanette Cooper of Milton, DE. Charles "Pop" is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
