Mr. Charles Watson Chastain of Lincolnton passed away peacefully on Monday, June 30, 2025 at Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center at the age of 78.

Born on January 5, 1947, in Lincoln County, Georgia, Charles was the son of the late Annie Jane Paradise Chastain and James William Chastain. He grew up in Lincoln County and graduated from Lincolnton High School in 1965.

Shortly afterwards, Charles answered the call to serve his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. While serving from 1966 to 1968, Charles distinguished himself as a medical specialist, demonstrating exceptional courage and commitment to his fellow soldiers. His valor in the field was recognized with numerous decorations, including the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, Combat Medical Badge, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. These honors spoke not just to Charles' bravery but to the gentle and caring spirit that would define his life.

Upon returning home from the war, Charles was an employee at CE Minerals at Graves Mountain and later worked with Aycock Logging, where he remained until his retirement. A man of faith, Charles was a longtime member and Deacon of the Greenwood Baptist Church.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing Charles will remember him as the epitome of kindness and humility. His gentle approach to life, his warm smile, and his willingness to help others will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his son, Jameson "Jamie" Chastain and wife Cindy Lee, grandson Charles Adam Chastain and wife Rebecca, sister, Colleen Chastain and several nieces and nephews. His wife, Lucinda "Cindy" Aycock Chastain and siblings, William "Yogi" Chastain and Elaine Chastain Gay preceded him in death.

Graveside services with military honors will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Greenwood Baptist Church Cemetery.

I am truly saddened to hear of the passing of your Dad/Brother. One of my fondest memories of Charles was when he and Ann taught me how to water ski at Clay Hill. The thing was they didn´t tell me how to stop. He always had a smiling face that will be remembered.
