Charles Arthur Doane, 84, died Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Mountain Ridge Care Facility in Franklin, New Hampshire. He was born on February 28, 1941, at the Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, Massachusetts.

He is predeceased by his father, Arthur N. Doane (97) and his mother, Virginia (82), his wife, Anna V. Doane (71) and his first wife, Beverly L. Doane (53). He is survived by his sons, Scott Doane of Palm Coast, FL and Brian Doane of Brewster, MA.

Charles began his career working for Ocean Spray Cranberry in Harwich, MA. He moved on to a position with the State of Massachusetts Transportation - Highways Division. After several years working for the Mass DOT, he left to open a Volkswagen Repair Garage in Brewster, MA. He owned and operated the garage for over 20 years. He finished his career back with the State of Massachusetts working at what he called his dream job, at the Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve.

In his younger years Charles favorite hobby was racing cars at the Chatham Dune Buggy Track and then he moved up to the New England Mini Modified Association where he raced all over the Northeast and Florida. He was a lifelong outdoorsman with a love for hunting. He was a craftsman who built boats, several hunting cabins, and a Sugar Shack where he produced homemade Maple Syrup. In his retirement he spent many days at Smith River Trading Post sharing stories with fellow outdoorsmen.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you remember Charles by spending time with loved ones and finding joy in life’s simple pleasures.
