Charles Wendell Goins, age 84, of Madison, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at Norton King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison. Born October 30, 1940 in Madison, he was the son of Everett and Louise (Helt) Goins.

Charlie graduated in 1958 from Madison High School, and was inducted into the United States Army on October 1, 1963. He was honorably discharged on September 30, 1965 with the rank of Specialist 4th Class. He completed his duty with the Army Reserves on September 30, 1969.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he sang in the Sanctuary Choir until failing health. In 2003, he retired as a psychiatric and recreational activities attendant at Madison State Hospital after more than forty years of service. Charlie was also a floral designer, and worked at most of the flower shops in Madison when they needed his assistance. Earlier in life, he worked at the former Steinhardt and Hanson, Inc.

His surviving family includes one son, Steve Goins of Bedford, Kentucky; Sheila Rose, who he raised as a daughter, of Madison; three sisters: Mary Duncan, Sherrill Holt and her husband, Jim, and Karen Thomas, all of Madison; two brothers: Richard Goins and his wife, Marianne of St. Marys, Georgia, and John Goins and his wife, Wanda of Madison; one sister-in-law, Sue Goins of Madison; one brother-in-law, Paul Carlow of Madison; three grandchildren, one great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Helen Smith and her husband, Clifford "Bud", Mabel Guthrie and her husband, Jean; Audrey Andrews and her husband, Whitty, and Margaret Carlow; three brothers: William "Pinhead" Goins, Benjamin Goins and his wife, Mary Jo, and Daniel Goins; two brothers-in-law: Wayne Thomas and Jim Duncan; one niece, Sheila Van Tassel; and one nephew, Bryan Carlow.

The Reverend Randy Crutchfield will conduct the funeral services.
