Charles Helmick Obituary

Charles Ray "Sunny" Helmick, 82, a resident of Elkins passed from this life Friday, July 18, 2025, at Autumn Lake at Nella's.

Charles was born Tuesday, March 2, 1943, in Elkins, a son of the late Ray Helmick and Bessie Delauder Helmick. On January 5, 1965, in Elkins, he was married to the Carolyn Delorse Lantz Helmick who preceded him in death on April 16, 2003, after thirty-eight years of marriage.

Left to cherish Charles' memory are two daughters, Angelo Anello and Tina Helmick, six grandchildren, Jennifer young, Jessica Long and companion, Kevin, Toby Helmick and wife, Jessica, Tiffany McCune and husband, Jerry Lee, David Leary and wife, Emma Louk, and Chasity Hobbs, thirteen great grandchildren, Aaliyah, Hannah, Bentlee, Masen, Jayleeigh, Briar, Sawyer "Hacksaw", Karsyn, Tegan, Addilyn, Asher, Kane, and Kamden, one great great granddaughter, Lakilynn, one sister, Betty Rock of Colorado, and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Charles in death besides his wife and parents was one daughter, Christine Long and five siblings, Lillian Everson, Mildred Edmond, Robert Helmick, Jerry Helmick, and James Helmick.

Charles attended the schools of Randolph County and had worked most of his life as a coal miner until becoming disabled. He loved to hunt and fish. He can be remembered for his love of all the community kids as he would look out for them, and for being the caretaker of Fansler Cemetery for many years.

A graveside service will be held at Fansler Cemetery on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at 1PM.
