Charles S. Hensley, of Gray, Kentucky, passed away on February 18, 2025, leaving a legacy of love, inspiration, and endearing memories.
Charles was a man of unwavering faith and lived his life guided by his Christian beliefs. He was a dedicated electrician and carpenter, whose work ethic was only surpassed by his vast talents and love for his family. Notably, he was a self-taught musician who could play seven instruments and a talented artist whose work brought joy to many. His linguistic skills were equally impressive, as he could speak six languages, further evidence of his insatiable curiosity and zest for life.
Among his commendable achievements, Charles served his country with honor and pride as a US Army Veteran and later in the National Guard, showcasing his unwavering commitment to service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Hensley and Hettie Walters Decker; son, Glen Ray Hensley; and by his siblings, Johnny Hensely, Gilbert Hensely, Bill Hensley, Wilma Freeman, and Ola Mae Hensley; and by a half-brother, David Decker and his wife Mary.
Charles' love story with his beloved wife, Thelma Louise Parks Hensley was one of enduring love having been married for 56 years and eight months.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his niece who was like a daughter to him, Thelma Scott (Jason); great-nephews, Austin, Jacob, and Kaleb Scott; half-brother, Ernest and half-sister, Mabel; niece, Deborah Luke; and by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ethel Pennington Parks and Roy Parks Sr.
Floral Tributes for Charles S. Hensley
Visitation for Charles will be from 6 - 8 pm on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, where his funeral service will be held at 8 pm with Rev. Delmon Sizemore officiating.
Military honors will be conducted by the Keavy DAV to honor their deceased comrade.
