Charles Chester Holloman was born Friday, January 28th, 1944 in Occoneechee North Hampton County, North Carolina to Elmond (aka Elmus) Johnson and Lue Mattie Holloman. Charles Chester departed this life on Saturday, July 26th, 2025 at 4:40am while peacefully sleeping at home in the presence of his wife and youngest daughter who he affectionally called "Cubby Bear." Charles attended the Occoneechee North Hampton County School District while growing up, then transferred to the Chicago Public Schools District. Charles and his family resided there in Chicago until he moved to Joliet, IL. In Joliet is where he lived until he heard God's voice telling him it was time to come on home and walk through the pearly gates. Awaiting his arrival were: his parents, his maternal grandmother-Josephine Holloman, paternal grandfather-Moses Clark, maternal great uncle and aunt-Luke and Essie Holloman, maternal uncle and aunt-Emmett and Corrine Holloman, First Wife-Mary Joyce (Strong)Holloman, son-Charles (Rosie) Tyrone Holloman, Father-in-law, L.C. Strong and Mother-in-law, Loree (Richard) Spencer. Charles was a hard-working man that believed in taking care of his family: financially, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. He was a man that believed "If a man don't work, he don't eat." Therefore, he worked a full-time job and was an entrepreneur owning a few side businesses. Charles worked full-time for the railroad prior to starting as a welder at Caterpillar Tractor until he was laid off, then moved on to CECO Steel, J.B. Hunt Transport as an over-the-road driver and drove the school bus for Crawford Bus Services. When Caterpillar called him back, he returned and worked until he retired with a full pension. Charles owned and operated several businesses during his lifetime. He opened up "Holloman's Shoe Repair" on 16th Street in Chicago, IL, which eventually relocated to Collins St, then Cass St. in Joliet, IL. He also started Holloman's Landscaping Services, Holloman's Weatherization Services, and was a part-time photographer, which he loved. As one can see, Charles believed in working, making money and providing for his family. Charles accepted Christ was baptized in Jesus name at Greater Bible Way Apostolic Temple, located in Joliet, IL under the auspices of the late Apostle Samuel Allen Sr. where he served as a faithful member and deacon. He also served as the president of the Young People Choir to keep the young people for a short time frame. Charles enjoyed being outside working in his yard, beautifying his home, buying and working on cars. He spent countless hours shopping at his favorite stores "Menards and Sam's." If he wanted something, he made provisions to obtain it. He was an independent man that did things on his own and didn't bother too many people to assist him. He was skilled and excellent using his hands. He could dismantle and reconstruct a piece of equipment with no problems. A paper manual was rarely used and only there is necessary. Charles had his own tools and if it was something he didn't have and needed, he went and purchased it. His motto was "It's better to have and not need, than need and not have." Some things were purchased in abundance and if one was somehow, mysteriously misplaced or broken, there was another one to instantly replace it. Charlie, which some of his friends affectionately called him was a member of the Masonic Organization under the Joliet Lodge and was officially in the brotherhood after "Riding the G.O.A.T." according to what he shared with his family and friends. He never disclosed what that meant nor did anyone continuously inquire. Charles' health took turn for the worse and started to decline a year and one-half ago. He fought a good fight and held on until the very end. He was always grateful for the time God allowed him to be on earth and would always remind his family that God had given him his 'three score and ten' and was now living on grace. When the good Lord let him know that it was time, he gracefully, walked into the light. Charles Chester Holloman leaves to cherish his everlasting memories: his loving, caring and devoted wife Teresa(Mabry) Holloman, loving daughters-Tuwanna and Tertia Holloman(Lockport, IL), loving son-Christopher Holloman(Gary, IN); three bonus daughters-LaTherese, Tiffany and Samantha Allen, brothers-Roosevelt(Loyce) Holloman(Markham, IL), Elvis "Butchie" Rainey(Chicago, IL), grandchildren-Jessica, Tyrone, Tyreeca, Carlos and Christiana Holloman, niece-Dontinea Rainey, brother-in-law Stanley Spencer, special friend-Tommie Wayne Poe, great-grand-children and a host of extended family members and friends The family would like to extend special recognition and thanks to the following medical staff members at Silver Cross Medical Center: Dr. Maher Mourad, Dr. Luke Cho, the nursing staff on 6-3 & 6-4 and Courtney Sullivan of Family Home Health. His legacy will continue and his life will forever be remembered, cherished, and celebrated by those who knew, loved and appreciated him. Charles may not be walking the face of the earth any longer, but he will never be forgotten and continue to be in our hearts as long as we live. .
