Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine,
according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in
Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever, Amen. -Ephesians 3:20-21
It is with heavy, heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved son, Charles Michael "Mike" Overstreet. Mike, 55, of Callao transitioned to his Heavenly home on June 30, 2025, with the same grace and peace that characterized his life here on Earth. Born to Charles Henry Overstreet and Emma Geraldine "Gerry" Douglas Overstreet in the spring of 1970, Mike was a lifelong resident of Callao. He graduated from Northumberland High School, attended Rappahannock Community College and was the Sound System Technician Manager at Bethany Baptist Church - a place that was not just his place of worship, but a second home.
Mike was passionate about college football and cheered his beloved Hokies on with unwavering enthusiasm every time they played. He was also a Nascar fan that never missed watching a race. Mike loved cars, especially his Mustang. He was a pillar of Bethany, not only managing the sound system, but also in his roles ushering, sharing his joy and faith with Vacation Bible School and teaching youth Sunday school.
To know Mike was to love him. He will be remembered as the most cherished son, the gentlest of souls, the kindest of friends to all and a faithful servant of the Lord. He was the friendly face of Bethany Baptist Church as he welcomed folks in on Sunday, his were the hands that kept the sound system running, and his words were always thoughtful and uplifting. He had a knack for knowing when someone needed to hear something positive and never forgot a birthday or special occasion.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving parents, Charley and Gerry; his cousins "Aunt" Brenda and Eddie Bevans; his dear friend Connie Lewis; a multitude of extended family; legions of friends and his church family at Bethany. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
A funeral service for Mike will be held at Bethany on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. with his friend and pastor Reverend Kori Kiss officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the church. Following his service, Mike will be laid to rest in the Overstreet family plot in the Bethany Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in Mike's loving memory to either the Children's Hospital in Richmond at support.chfrichmond.org or to Bethany Baptist Church VBS Fund at P.O. Box 641, Callao, VA 22435.
You, Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.
