Charles Strength, age 81 of Cross Plains, Texas was called home on Thursday, June 26, 2025 in Brownwood, Texas.
Charles served in the army from June 21, 1965 – May 23, 1967. While serving, he was honored with the National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged as a Private First Class. After serving in the military, he worked for Jim Bass Ford as a mechanic. He worked overseas for Aramco Water Well Maintenance where he eventually moved his family to Egypt and Malta. He later worked for Skeet Walker's Garage and eventually opened his own mechanic shop, Charlie's Truck and Trailer Repairs. He enjoyed working as a mechanic and served the Cross Plains area for many years.
Charles was born on February 8, 1944, in Coleman, Texas to the late C. J. Strength and Kathryn Tomlinson. Charles married Linda Strength on June 15, 1967.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife Linda Strength; his parents, C. J. Strength and Kathryn Tomlinson; three sisters, Mary Whatley, Barbara McCormick, and Margaret Jordan.
Charles is survived by his daughter, Dawn Hilburn and husband, Ron Hilburn of Brownwood, Texas; son Chris Strength and wife, Angel of Oxnard, California; Amy Barnett of Marana; 6 grandchildren, Austin Hilburn and wife, Elizabeth; Colton Hilburn; Brooklyn Martinez and husband, Miguel; Bradley Strength and wife, Ranko Sasanami; Kobe Barnett; Kayley Barnett; 4 great grandchildren, Addison Ortiz; Arilyn Ortiz; Bryson Hilburn; and Layla Hilburn; brother, Donald Strength and wife, Vickie; two sisters, Vickie Perez and Carla Strength.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cross Plains Senior Citizen Center
at P.O. Box 144, Cross Plains, TX 76443.
