Cheryl Elizabeth Geick, age 87, passed away on January 27, 2025, at Briarwood Health Care Center in Iowa City, IA.
Born on May 12, 1937, in Sexton, IA, Cheryl Geick was the daughter of Clayton and Inez (Dexter) Johnson. She attended Cooper #3 Country School until the 8th grade and went on to graduate from Fort Dodge High School. Cheryl continued her education at Buena Vista College and dedicated her career to teaching, inspiring young minds as a 1st-grade teacher at Pomeroy Community School and as a special education teacher at Sherman School and Manson School.
On April 16, 1960, Cheryl married Robert (Bob) Geick at the Fort Dodge Methodist Church. They built their life together on the family farm in Pomeroy, where they raised their three children while Bob farmed until they moved to town in 2003. In 2020, Cheryl relocated to Coralville, Iowa, to be closer to her family and to live with her daughter.
Cheryl was an active and devoted member of the Pomeroy United Methodist Wesley Church and Manson Our Savior United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and served as Sunday School Superintendent. Her involvement extended to the United Methodist Women, the S.A.K. Club, the EZ Does It Club, and various card clubs.
A woman of many talents, Cheryl enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, and traveling, often cherishing the special memories made during family vacations to Florida. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and grandchildren, and she found comfort and companionship in her beloved dog, Izzy.
Cheryl is survived by her children: Steve Geick of Overland Park, KS; Janan Geick of Coralville, IA; and Lynn Geick (Ben) of Iowa City, IA. She was a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren: Taylor (Ben) Tallman of Raymore, MO; Dylan (Amber) Geick of Overland Park, KS; Logan Geick (Makenzie) of Leavenworth, KS; Jaisa Miller (Evan Cohen) of Tampa, FL; Jadyn Miller of Coralville, IA; Jenna Geick (Eric Scott) of Iowa City, IA; and Griffin Geick of Corpus Christi, TX. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren: Oliver and Sutton Tallman, along with many granddogs.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her loving husband Bob (2015), her parents, and her brothers, Clayton Jr. and Larry.
Cheryl's warmth, kindness, and loving spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In honor of Cheryl's career teaching special education, memorials can be made in her name to the Iowa Special Olympics.
