Christopher Jones, 77, of Michigan City went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 3, 2025. He passed with his wife by his side.
Christopher Jones was born on Dec. 29, 1947, in East Chicago, Indiana, to Irvin and Geraldine (Johnson) Jones.
Chris married the love of his life, Ronwynn Layne Jones, on her birthday, Sept. 21, 2006, in San Francisco, California, at Alamo Square in the Height-Ashbury District. They were a power couple and each other's soulmates. Chris and Ronni were actually one person.
Chris was truly a man of integrity and the best husband and father to ever walk this earth. If you knew Chris, you loved Chris. He didn't just have relationships, he had spiritually bonds. Chris immersed himself in the fellowship of AA and did countless acts of service work. He was on the Board of Directors of the Dunes Fellowship House for more than 20 years. Also, the president of the Resident's Committee for more than 20 years. He took calls from people struggling with addiction on the AA National hotline. His experience, strength and hope, he shared with others in the recovery community for more than 29 years. He was a legend in the Chicagoland area of recovery.
After Chris retired from the oil refinery, he was the head of maintenance at Beach Walk Resorts, in Sheridan Beach, where he resided for more than 20 years. He was a very skilled carpenter and designer. He was known for crafting all of the white fences and pagodas at the resort. Chris could be seen driving his golf cart down Lake Shore Drive in his tie dye and Ron Jon Surf Shop shirts, with his cap tilted to the side and earring glistening in the sun. Many have tried to emulate Chris' way of life – kindness, compassion and love filled every fiber of his being.
Chris enjoyed reminiscing about his college days at Southern in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the largest HBCU in Louisiana.
His spirit is not only with the Lord now but will live on through the lives of all of the people he touched.
Chris is survived by his loving wife, Ronwynn (Ronni) Jones. Also, his children, Tadmiko C. Jones of East Chicago, Indiana, April S. (Michael) Hill of Merrillville, Indiana, Geraldine R. Jones of Gary, Indiana, Jacob D. Hill of Asheville, North Carolina, Dustin W. Hill of Michigan City, Indiana, and Jayde Olyria of Trail Creek, Indiana; grandchildren, Chris Smith, John Dates, Quentin Smith, Brittany Smith, Kevon Smith and Brandy Smith; great-grandchildren, Maurice Baker Jr., Messiah Baker, Makhari Baker, Malaya Baker and Kayceon Smith; his two nieces, Shonda Jones and Shannon Smith; and his very special nephew, Kevin Smith.
Johnny Kinsey survives as Chris' best friend for life, born on the same day, same month, same year. They grew up together in Gary, Indiana. Johnny also introduced Chris to recovery.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Etwood O. Smith, Chuck Jones and Russell (Lynette) Jones.

Mary Dean and I send our heartfelt condolences to Ronnie and all who loved Chris. Unfortunately, we are in Wisconsin on a family vacation and won´t be able to attend the memorial services tomorrow. Please know that we are thinking of you all and wish we could join you in celebrating and remembering Chris.
Chris Jones was an integral part of the Beachwalk Community from its early days. Alongside Peter (the late Peter Iaukea), he contributed to both the physical and spiritual well-being of Beachwalk throughout its growth and took great pride in watching our community flourish. The memory of his booming laugh will stay with me forever.
With much love, Tom and Mary Dean Moss
