Christopher Monroe "Chris" Payne passed away after a lengthy illness on January 24, 2025, at the age of fifty years, at his home in Salem, Missouri, with his beautiful mother caring for him and holding his hand until the end.
Chris was born on April 21, 1974, in Columbia, Missouri to Beulah M. Bond (nee: Shaw) and Johnny W. Payne, Sr. He called Salem home for several years and previously lived in Columbus, Texas and around the St. Louis area.
During his time residing in the St. Louis area Chris was blessed with his son Brendan and daughter Hailey. Anytime they were in his presence he showered them with love and affection just as he did his nieces and nephews.
Chris enjoyed collecting knives, looking at old cars, going to garage sales, and visiting with family and friends. He will be forever missed by those who loved him most.
Chris is survived by his children: Brendan and Hailey; parents: Beulah Bond of Salem, MO and Johnny Payne Sr. of Columbus, TX; two brothers: Johnny Jr. and Angie Payne of Columbus, TX and Scotty Payne and his fiancé Michelle Franklin of St. Charles, MO; stepsister: Ladonna Chester of Columbus, TX; sister-in-law: Leslie Pender (Rick) of St. Charles, MO; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, adoptive family members, and many friends.
Chris is preceded in death by his brother: Richard "Wayne" Payne; stepmother: Donna Payne; niece: Tanya Hawk; and his grandparents: Gilbert and Alma Shaw and Richard and Marie Payne.
Funeral Services for Christopher Monroe "Chris" Payne were held Wednesday, January 29, 2025, in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with his Uncle Pastor Tom Enloe officiating and his brother Scotty Payne sharing the eulogy. Song Selections played were "Gathering the Flowers for the Masters Bouquet", "Go Rest High On That Mountain", "I Want To Stroll Over Heaven With You", and "Jealous Of The Angels". Serving as Pallbearers were Johnny Shaw, Kenny Shaw, Bobby Shaw, David Payne, Carl Payne, and Richard Payne. Burial was in the Gladden Empire Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri.
Memorial Donations may be made in memory of Chris Payne to Timber Church or Gladden Empire Cemetery and left with Wilson Mortuary. Memorial Envelopes will be available.
