Clara Ahrens, 88, of Jackson passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at Chateau Girardeau.
She was born on July 8, 1936, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Elmer King and Meta Voshage Fiehler. At the age of two, she was lovingly raised by Henry and Laura Voshage.
Clara was baptized on August 30, 1936, by the late Rev. F.H. Melzer and confirmed on April 2, 1950, by the late Rev. H.J. Stricker at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit, also the church of her marriage to Leonard Ahrens on November 2, 1953, with nuptials by the Late Rev. H.J. Stricker. Clara was an active member of the church, The Ladies Aide, Lutheran Women's Missionary League, and taught Sunday school.
She was a graduate of Immanuel Lutheran grade school and Jackson High School. She worked 17 years as a cashier and often accompanied Leonard on his routes when he drove a truck for Ceramo Company in Jackson. They were married 66 years when he passed away on April 18, 2019.
She was dedicated to her community as a 4-H leader for 10 years.
Above all, Clara loved her family deeply. She cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, always ready to do anything for them - sewing clothes for her daughters and making quilts for loved ones. Her hands were rarely still, and her heart was always open.
Loving survivors include her five daughters, Karen (Rev. David) Kern of Moyock, North Carolina, Sharon (Walter) Rosborg of Jackson, Saundra (Brad) Birk of Jackson, Carolyn (late Gary) Gerecke of Gordonville, and Patsy (Scott) Skrob of Jackson; 11 grandchildren Teri Rosborg, Erik (Jamie) Rosborg, Angela Rosborg, Michelle (Brent) Lichtenegger, Derek (Angela) Birk, Megan (J.P.) Sides, Kendal Green (Chelsey Jones), Leah (Adam) Henley, all of Jackson, Brandon (Hannah) Gerecke of Gordonville, Sarah (Rev. Mark) Witte of Monroe, Michigan and Lisa (Jay) Otero of Moyock.
Also surviving are 27 great-grandchildren, Luke, Jonah, Seth, Anya and Ben Witte of Monroe; Noah, and Elia Otero of Mayock; Collin, Abigail and Logan Rosborg; Gavin Bruno, Hayley (Xzavier) Gremard; Kaleb Kiefer (Michaela Dodd); Garrett and Hannah Lichtenegger; Bryce and Braxtyn Sides; Cole and Brooklynn Birk; Cooper Green; Chase, Tucker, Madilynn, and Logan Henley all of Jackson; Fendten, Lynlie, Avynn and Hesston Gerecke of Gordonville; a great-great-granddaughter, Amelia Kiefer of Jackson and siblings, Erma (late Bill) Call of Jackson and David (late Mary) King of Fuguay Varina, North Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son-in-law, Gary Gerecke; granddaughter, Letisha Gerecke; a sister, Ann (Dave) Vinyard; uncle and aunt, Henry and Laura Voshage; and Leonard's siblings, Luella (Rolland) Stadt and Elvira (Nelson) Sebastian; and Leonard's parents, Paul and Hulda Aufdenberg Ahrens.
The visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until service time on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit.
The Rev. Mark Boettcher will conduct the funeral service at 2:30 p.m., on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at the church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family suggests that contributions be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
