Clarence Erwin McCorkle passed away at the age of 82, at Regency Harmony House in Brewster, WA, on July 8th, 2025, after a long struggle with dementia. Clarence was born to Wilber and Leta (Baker) McCorkle on Jan. 20, 1943, in The Dalles, Oregon. The first 13 years of his life were spent on a ranch near Shady Brook outside of Tygh Valley, OR. Clarence was saved at an early age at the Assembly of God Church. In 1956, the family moved to a ranch in Benson Creek, near Twisp.
Clarence graduated from Twisp High School in 1961. In 1964 he joined the Army. He served 2 tours of duty as an Air Traffic Controller during the Vietnam War. He was awarded an Army Commendation Medal for his service. In the 1970's he began operating a cattle ranch near Twisp, specializing in the Santa Gertrudis breed. In 1985 he married Norah Sampson. One son, William "Perry" McCorkle was born to this family.
He continued ranching for over 40 years. He collected waste oil throughout Okanogan County and maintained Big Bertha for the Twisp Community Center. He had a lifelong interest in equipment and vehicle repair, attending auctions and church events, raising bees and harvesting wild fruit. Clarence had a generous heart, he helped people with mechanical issues, loaned out equipment and vehicles and opened his home to anyone that needed it.
In 2022 Clarence moved to Methow, WA to be near his family, Bill and Doris Tonseth. His son, Perry, was his caregiver. In 2025 he moved to Harmony House in Brewster, WA, where he received excellent care from the staff.
He is survived by his son, Perry McCorkle; and his siblings: Fred (Deb) McCorkle, Doris (Bill) Tonseth, Sharon (Ken) Davidson, and Philip (Julie) McCorkle; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Wayne McCorkle; and one sister, Helen Reed.
