Claude "Dusty" A. Jones, age 82, of DeMotte, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 20, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Dusty was born on September 30, 1942, in Gary, Indiana, to James T. and Clara R. (Benedict) Rose. He graduated from Dyer Central High School, Class of 1960. At the age of 17, Dusty proudly enlisted in the United States Navy, serving from 1960 to 1963, including during the Cuban Missile Crisis and a tour of the Mediterranean onboard the USS Boston. In 1962, he married the love of his life, Hilda Poston, and together they shared 63 wonderful years. Dusty dedicated over 35 years of service to the Ford Assembly Plant before retiring, he was also a Range DNR officer at Willow Slough Fish & Wildlife. He later continued his career as a consultant for NIPSCO. A true outdoorsman, Dusty found joy in hunting, fishing, and target shooting. He loved riding his Harley and could often be found cruising the neighborhood on his golf cart, enjoying time with friends. He was a member of the American Legion and was formerly affiliated with the American Reformed Church of DeMotte. Dusty is survived by his beloved wife, Hilda Jones; his children: Connie Jones, Patricia (Robert) Ruth, Kimberly (Daniel) Vanlandingham, Tonya Nwachukwu, and Pamela Miller; 11 grandchildren: Johnny, Rob, Ryan, Rachel, Rebecca, Andrew, Lindsey, Jordan, Hannah, Miranda, and Dillon; 19 great-grandchildren; and sister, Rose Marie Meszaros. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: James William, Julian Moses, John Thomas, and Alex Joseph; and his son-in-law, Bartholomeu Nwachukwu. Family and friends are invited to gather at Jackson Funeral Service in DeMotte on Monday, July 28, 2025, from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 PM with Chaplain Sam Shaver officiating. Burial will follow at DeMotte Cemetery with military honors.
