SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY- Jared Snyder died on October 10th holding the hand of his wife of 36 years. He was 66, which was way too young for such a vibrant, healthy man.
He rode his bike most of the days of his life. He rode his bike in Bhutan, Thailand, Morrocco, Italy, Spain, Ireland, England, Scotland, France, Laos, Portugal, Buffalo, Washington, Albany, Saratoga, the Netherlands, and so many other places. He was a vegetarian, not a very good vegetarian, but he did his best.
When your husband dies, the funeral home gives you a template for the obituary. Obviously, I will be ignoring that.
He is survived by his amazing children, Caleb and his partner Emily, Aidan and his wife Stephanie, Ethan and his partner Christina, his wife Cathy, his brother Adam and his wife Alison, his sister Abigail and her husband Rick, and so many other people who loved him. They are a tribute to him and the man he was. He taught all of my children, and my nephew Liam, how to poop in the woods. He loved the Adirondacks and did everything in his power to protect it.
Jared lived a life of purpose and meaning and made the planet better through his creativity, intellect and integrity. He was deeply loved, because he deserved it. He will be missed.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 16, 2025, from 2-4pm at the Zankel Music Center at Skidmore College (815 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866) with a reception will follow. Please join us to celebrate this extraordinary man and revel in the community we built and the legacy of a life well lived.
Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/ Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Home, 628 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.

I was fortunate enough to work many years ago at the Attorney General’s Environmental Protection Bureau and didn’t believe that men like him existed. I’m still not sure, but I am certain that he was a kind, respectful and compassionate man who lived his life on purpose and in a way that challenged me to want to become the best version of myself. I’m heartbroken and send my sincerest condolences to his wife, children, family, friends and loved ones. He will be greatly missed!

Dear Cathy, Ethan, Aidan and Caleb,
We are so sorry to learn of Jared’s passing.
We were lucky to know him through our years traveling with our boys during the Black Watch years. We always enjoyed his wise takes on issues of the day and were inspired by his pregame bike rides, no matter the location or weather conditions! We send our love and heartfelt condolences to all of you and hope to join you to honor his life.

I served with Jared in the Environmental Enforcement Section of the U.S. Department of Justice and have known him for more than 30 years. He was a tenacious litigator and later a respected leader at NYSDEC and after his retirement a fellow member of the NYLCV board. I admired him as a professional and also as a great X-country skier. We crossed paths a few times at the Garnet Hill X-country ski center in North River. I’m so sorry to hear of his untimely passing and extend my condolences to his family.

Dear Cathy -- we are so sad to hear of your loss. It was always a treat to see him next door, or at Gore, and occasionally at a Colgate/Cornell hockey game. Please extend our sympathies to your family. Regards,

Dear Cathy, Caleb, Aidan and Ethan. Jared was a great man and a good friend to me during our years together in Buffalo and Boston. I, like everyone in Jared‘s life, was privileged to have known him and to have had so many good times with him.
