Clinda "Joy" Spence Brackman Weeks, 75, of Covington, died Saturday, August 16, 2025 at the Brian Center – Alleghany in Low Moor.
She was born August 15, 1950, in Bluefield, WV, a daughter of the late Rev. Russell Spence and Reba Bondean Smith Spence. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Emory W. Brackman in 1996; her second husband, Lewis H. Weeks in 2016; a son, Stephen W. Brackman; and her mother and father-in-law, Clate and Glenna Brackman.
Joy devoted her life to serving the Alleghany Highlands community through a distinguished career in healthcare and cultural preservation. She retired from the DaVita Covington Dialysis Center in 2016, having previously contributed her skills at the Greenbrier Clinic, with Dr. Krishna Sankar, Ophthalmologist, at the Chesapeake & Ohio Historical Society in Clifton Forge, and for over two decades at LewisGale Hospital Alleghany. A faithful member of First Christian Church in Covington, where she was currently active, she also served as a pianist at Dunlap Christian Church, where her husband, Emory Brackman, was pastor, and at Disciples of Christ in Clifton Forge, where she shared her musical gifts. Her love for music extended to her personal life, where she delighted in playing the piano, collecting cow figurines, and enjoying the artistry of country music star Brad Paisley and gospel artist Charles Billingsley. She further enriched her community through dedicated service with the Alleghany Unit of the American Heart Association as Memorial Gifts Chair, where she also supported various Heart Fund community events, leaving a legacy of compassion and commitment.
Survivors include her son, Jonathan Brackman of Covington; a sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Everette Defibaugh of Lewisburg, WV; Grandchildren, Andrew Brackman and Amber Brackman of Sevierville, TN; a niece, Elizabeth Devito and her husband, Ray; great-nephew and niece, Jullian Devito and Ellie Devito, all of Smithton, PA; a brother-in-law, Jim Brackman and his wife, Terry, of Covington; and special friends, Betty Rohr, Brenda Woodie, and Dreama Ogden.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2025 at 11:00 AM in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating, assisted by the Rev Everette Defibaugh.
The family will receive their friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
Interment will be made in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
