Connie Dale (Schmitz) Quattlebaum, age 69, of Leedey, Oklahoma, passed away on August 4, 2025, holding hands with her husband Doug. Connie was born on January 11, 1956, in Thomas, Oklahoma, to Clarence (Joe) and Mary Schmitz. She was a proud graduate of Thomas High School and maintained relationships with her classmates, celebrating their 50th reunion last year. She married Doug Quattlebaum January 28, 1994. She spent many years working for Don McNeil in Thomas, Oklahoma. While her kids were in elementary school, she was a homemaker. Then she returned to school to earn her degree in Early Childhood Education from Southwest Oklahoma State University. Connie dedicated her career to the children of Leedey Public Schools, teaching preschool, kindergarten, and second grade. Later, she retired from her role as school librarian, where she continued to share her love of learning and reading with generations of students, whom she considered were her "kids". Even in her retirement, she didn't quit working. She managed the many family businesses, doing her best to keep Doug and Kent in line. A woman of strong faith and deep commitment, Connie was an active member of Leedey First Baptist Church. She served faithfully as church treasurer and organist for many years. She especially had a heart for youth and children's ministry. She was a tireless supporter of Falls Creek, rising before dawn to cook breakfast for 60 hungry teenagers and staying up late into the night during worship. She volunteered every summer at VBS and taught kids classes on Sunday and Wednesday evenings. She maintained a strong loyalty to her beloved Leedey Bison-half her closet was green, and she never missed a chance to cheer on the team, whether or not her own kids or grandkids were playing. Often times, home basketball games were considered date night. Connie's true joy, however, was her family-especially her grandchildren. She adored them unconditionally and devoted countless hours and thousands of miles traveling across the state to be there for every game, concert, or moment worth celebrating. Her grandchildren were her world, and she rarely said "no," much to the dismay (and amusement) of their parents. She is preceded in death by her parents Joe and Mary Schmitz, and father-in-law Marvin Quattlebaum. She is survived by her loving husband, Doug Quattlebaum, and their children: Kelly Manke, husband Brandon, and sons Wade and Wyatt
Amanda Johnston, husband Rusty, and children Brandon and Mallory
Kent Quattlebaum, wife Sam, and children Lilly, Karlee, and Vince
Brandy Thompson, husband Taylor, and sons Easton and Hudson
brother Randy Schmitz and wife Jan, and her mother-in-law Darlene Quattlebaum. She also leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and fierce love for her family, her church, and her community. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Leedey First Baptist Church, followed by a graveside service at New Herman Cemetery. Though Connie cherished flowers and plants, she would be honored by donations made in her memory to the causes close to her heart.
