Constance Barrett Obituary

Constance "Connie" McClintock Barrett, Ph.D., of Victor, NY, passed away at home on the 3rd of January 2025, at the age of 83. Connie was born in Syracuse, NY, a daughter of late Henry Lockwood McClintock and Helen Hancock McClintock. She was a graduate of Harvard University, and worked for the United States Information Agency for a few years in several countries abroad. She attended Stanford University, where she obtained her doctorate in Russian Language and Literature. She then taught Russian Literature at Southwestern at Memphis, now Rhodes College. After moving to the Washington D.C. area, she was an Analyst at the FBI for many years. In retirement, she and her husband, Terence, traveled extensively in the Americas. She also obtained a Master's degree in Literacy Education at George Mason University and subsequently taught English as a second language.
With her gentle independence and unique approach to life, she marched to the beat of her own drum. She delighted in unusual plants and animals and was known for her whimsical gifts and quirky practical jokes. She valued highly her time with family and friends, who in turn benefitted from her eternal optimism and support. In her spare time, she loved reading extensively, setting up bird feeders, weeding her garden and trying out recipes from multiple sources. She was known for sending home-made pies to her children, even to one living in Spain and another serving in the Persian Gulf. She always tolerated adverse circumstances with dignity, grace and without complaint, but never more so when her numerous, serious medical issues significantly impacted the quality of her life in her final years.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Terence W. Barrett, Ph.D., as well as their daughter, Josephine Barrett, M.D., of Victor, NY; sons James Barrett, J.D., of Portland, OR, and Nathaniel Barrett, Ph.D., of Pamplona, Spain, a well as five grandchildren. Connie was an original. Her loyal, compassionate and gracious personality will be greatly missed.
