Cooper Baxter Obituary

Cooper Baxter Jr., age 86 of Hiawassee, entered into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 3, 2025. Cooper was born in Cedartown, Georgia, on September 9, 1938, to Winfred Cooper Baxter Sr. and Mable Baxter. Cooper was a member of Mountain Grace Baptist Church and had a strong and unwavering faith in God and a deep love for his family. He spent many years teaching Sunday school and enjoyed studying the Bible and sharing the Word of God. He retired in 1993 from IBM, where he was an Engineer, and enjoyed spending his time woodworking, being outdoors, and was an avid reader. He loved to walk in the woods and find fallen or broken tree limbs to carve into ornate walking sticks for himself or anyone who needed one. There was always some sort of project that he was working on.

Cooper was a devoted Father and loving Husband who is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years; Lorraine Baxter, and survived by their four children: Daughter and Son in Law, Pam (Brian) Tienter; Daughter and Son in Law, Linda (Doug) Parsons; Son and Daughter in Law, Brian (Kari) Baxter; Daughter and Son in Law, Sharon (Jonathan) Pendergrass; Grandchildren: Chris (Lauren) Tienter, Tanner Pendergrass, Bria (Landon) Berge, Rachel Parsons. Great-Grandchildren: Jett, Baby girl Tienter (Due August), Lindsey, Lejla, Cole, and Blake.

His passing creates a sadness that cannot fully be expressed, he will be deeply missed by his family, but his memory will live on in our hearts as long as we live. The love that he gave and the joy he created in being our father will be forever cherished.

Visitation will be held at Cochran-McDaniel Funeral Home Hiawassee Chapel, in Hiawassee, Georgia, on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 pm.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Mountain Grace Baptist Church at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Mountain Grace Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations for bibles can be made in his memory on the day of the service or by sending them to the church.
