Citrus Springs, Florida. Craig Joseph Dahlquist, age 72, passed away on June 25, 2025 in Citrus Springs, Florida after a brief illness. He has been cared for during his illness by his loving wife of 34 years, Jan.
Craig was born on February 26, 1953 in Boise, Idaho to C. Winston and Afton Ahlander Dahlquist. As a boy and also an adult he was happy, fun and always caring and sensitive to the needs of others. These characteristics continued through his life - wanting to help others and bring a laugh and smile whenever he could. In his unassuming way he reached out to neighbors, friends, family and local organizations. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Inverness Moose Lodge and the Alabama Music Association (AMA).
After graduation from Borah High School in Boise and two years at Boise State University, Craig served in the United States Army in Germany for three years. Craig was always proud of his service to his country, following in the footsteps of his father, who fought in France and Germany during World War II. Craig married Jan Stiegemeier on July 24, 1992 and they had a wonderful life wherever they lived, including Middleton, Idaho and most recently in Citrus Springs, Florida. They were best friends, blessed with a loving family, a full life and many relationships along the way.
Craig was particularly talented as a musician, singer and composer and lifted many with his clear and resonant voice. After spending several years entertaining in Canada as a singer, he hung up his guitar and sang little during the middle years of his life - picking it up again after he and Jan moved to Florida. Thereafter, he picked up where he left off and worked with a passion to develop and share his talents - he entertained and competed in venues and contests throughout the southern states. He was very proud of his accomplishments at NACMAI (North American Country Music Association International) and enjoyed seven years at the annual competition in Pigeon Forge, TN. He treasured friendships that were built with people from Maine, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia and Florida.
His talent and desire to share his music to lift others was particularly apparent during COVID, when he would regularly send out on Facebook songs he personally recorded to lift thousands of followers during those difficult and often dark days of isolation.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Jan; his stepson Derek Stiegemeier (Bridgett) and 3 grandchildren; his sister, Jeanene Ellis (Frank), Twin Falls, Idaho; and his brother Charles W. Dahlquist II (Zella), St. George, Utah; and numerous nieces and nephews. Craig was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Taylor (Judy), Lincoln City, Oregon.
He was beloved by all his family. His calls to family members on holidays and other times throughout the year will be greatly missed, as will his famous "Dahlqvist Swedish Nuts."
There will be a viewing for family and close friends at 10:00am on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Nelson Family Mortuary, 4780 N. University Ave.,
Provo, Utah 84604. The funeral service with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Provo City Cemetery.
