On December 22, 2024, Crystal Danielle Fields, of Augusta, Georgia passed away peacefully at the age of 59 years. Crystal was a beloved daughter, sister, cousin, sister-in law, aunt, godmother, and great aunt. Crystal will always be remembered for her kindness, and her strength throughout her life. Her legacy of laughter and compassion will live on.
Born on November 27, 1965, in Brooklyn, New York, Crystal grew up as the 5th child of her predeceased parents, George Russell Fields and Myrial Elaine Gorham Fields. Crystal and the family enjoyed their time in Brooklyn, spending weekends in Prospect Park, the Botanical Gardens, and the Brooklyn Museum, as well as visiting relatives in the Bronx, NY, Laurelton (Queens), NY, Mt. Vernon, NY, Philadelphia, PA, and Danbury Connecticut. They resided in Brooklyn, on a tree-lined street of Brownstones. The family later purchased a home in Rosedale, Queens, NY, and years later settled in Far Rockaway, Queens, NY. Crystal graduated from Far Rockaway High School in 1983 and continued her education at Katherine Gibbs Business School – completing an executive secretarial program.
Crystal began her career in the early 90's, as an executive assistant, at Lehman Brothers. With continued growth, she held the position of personal assistant at the National Football League (NFL), and Ebony Magazine.
Crystal lived primarily in Jersey City, NJ and Perth Amboy, NJ, in the late 90's and early 2000's.
During this time, Crystal was an avid traveler; her spirit for adventure and lived experiences was second only to her devotion to God and family, she loved spending time with the family she cherished. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, in Staten Island, NY, pastored by Reverend Williams and the First Lady of Fellowship, Ollie Williams, Crystal's Godmother. As a devoted member, from 2000 – 2008, Crystal served in several areas of ministry – praise and worship (choir member), Usher Ministry, the Outreach Program, Daycare Facility, and Missions Group. Crystal loved to listen to gospel music, two of her favorite artists were Kirk Franklin and Hezekiah Walker. Crystal was also an avid sports fan, she especially enjoyed watching basketball and football games.
Crystal was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in her early forties, during her journey with MS she was under the care of many dedicated physicians, medical staff, and caregivers: Kessler Rehabilitation Center, West
Orange, NJ, and Care One, Livingston, NJ. For a period of time she resided at Jewish Federation Plaza, in West
Orange, NJ. Crystal relocated to Augusta, Georgia in 2010, and was under the care of physicians, at Augusta University Health. Crystal's home for the past several years was, "The Place at Martinez," in Augusta, GA. Through dedicated members of her care team, and family, Crystal was able to battle her illness for over a decade.
Crystal is survived by her Paternal Great Aunts, Laura Dancy (103 years old) and Verna Smallwood; three Brothers: Phillip Fields, Colonel George Russell Fields, Ret., Michael Fields, two Sisters: Jacqueline Baptiste and Myrial Pedersen; her Brother in law: Ole Pedersen; Sister in laws: Jacqueline Fields, and Sandy Fields; First Cousins: Wimberly Long, Brenda St. Clair, Gregory Smith, and Robin Smith; her Second cousin: Kimberleigh Long; Nieces and Nephews: Brittany Fields, Marcus Fields, Jonathan Fields, Nicole Baptiste, Jacqueline Noelle Baptiste, Fortunato Paolo Dato, Jr., Anniken Pedersen, Isabel Pedersen; Great Nieces and Nephews: Ethan Fields, Elliana Fields, Giulia Dato, Caterina Dato, and Sebastian Walker, and more extended family.
A memorial service for Crystal will be held at Woody "Home for Services" on January 7th at noon. Interment to follow at Rosedale Cemetery in Montclair, NJ.
