ALVIN – Curtis Allen Crabtree passed away on June 30, 2025, in Alvin.
Curtis was born on April 13, 1948, in Angleton where he grew up with his four brothers. He attended Alvin Junior College and went on to earn his Bachelor's in Industrial Arts in 1971 from Sam Houston State University. Curtis then went on to serve honorably in the United States Air Force Reserves and after his discharge, he began a career in teaching.
He taught industrial arts and drafting at Dickinson High School for six years, where he sparked creativity and confidence in his students. Curtis joined Monsanto/Solutia in the late 1970's as a processor and trainer and worked there for more than 20 years. After he retired, he joined Alvin Community College as a process engineering instructor, serving for five years and eventually becoming Chair of the Process Engineering Department for another 5 years. Known for his mentorship and leadership, he helped guide the next generation of professionals with care and precision.
A man of many talents and passions, Curtis was a skilled woodworker who crafted beautiful furniture and handmade crafts. He customized and built his own garage - a space that served as both a workshop and a personal retreat. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting, camping and fishing, and had a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life, including brewing his own beer and preserving homemade jams and jellies. He was also an avid reader of fiction and historical nonfiction, always eager to learn something new or lose himself in a good story. In the past year, he devoted time to reading the Bible, making it all the way through the Old Testament before he passed. Curtis was a man of vast knowledge and many talents, who loved his family passionately. He was a thoughtful man who strived to do what was right. We were blessed to call him husband, father and friend. He will be sorely missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Estill and Mariam Josephine (Park) Crabtree; brothers, Paul and Leigh Crabtree.
Survivors include his dedicated wife of almost 54 years, Barbara Elaine (Clark) Crabtree; children, Natalie Crabtree and Dean Crabtree; grandchildren, Gavin and Madeline; brothers, Brian and Joel.
A memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2025, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, TX (409) 925-3501, with Pastor Joshua McDonald officiating.
