Cynthia M Lybrand (1951-2025)
Cynthia Lybrand, 74, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, died on Sunday, October 12, 2025, after a prolonged illness.
Born on the Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming, she grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, attending Terry Parker High School where she was a proud member of the marching band. She got her first taste of accounting at Norwood Bike and Mower, which her father owned. Responsible for collecting payments from customers on their accounts from a young age, she was paid in all the Coca Cola and candy bars she could eat! After high school, she moved to Miami, where she worked in the office of Valleydale Meat Packing Plant and, later, at Armour & Company while attending college.
Around 1970, Cynthia moved to the New Smyrna Beach area and continued working in the bookkeeping profession. In 1973, she took over Dunn Rankin and Co., later renaming the company to C. M. Lybrand & Co, becoming one of the first female accountants in Volusia County. She was proud of being at the forefront of technology and innovation in the accounting profession. In 1980, she became one of the first accountants in the county to own a computer, which was dropped off with no introduction or instruction! Undeterred, she would call the programmers directly and have them talk her through corrections to the computer code for the tax program. A proud businesswoman, she continued to serve the community tirelessly for over fifty years with dedication, integrity and heart. Her door was always open. She shared her knowledge freely with new business owners and young professionals, showing them that the path to success could be accomplished with hard work, integrity and compassion.
When not at work, she sought solace in her garden and enjoyed nature. She loved watching countless species of birds every morning while drinking her coffee and preparing for the day. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Cynthia was preceded in death by her son, Nathaniel Lybrand Hamilton. She is survived by her spouse, Philip Weaver, her daughter, Dawn Moore (William), her stepchildren, Amanda Williams (Scott) and Lyle Weaver (Jennifer), her siblings, Carol Duffey, Charles Lybrand (Andi), David Lybrand (Maria), Gary Lybrand, Roger Simmons (Lisa Cianci), Craig Simmons, seven grandsons, and many nieces and nephews.
If desired, memorial donations may be made to The Educational Foundation for Women in Accounting (www.efwa.org) in her name.
Family and friends are invited to attend Cynthia's Celebration of Life on November 12, 2025, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30pm at the Live Oak Cultural Center, 1050 Live Oak St, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32168 (behind the NSB library).
