It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dale E Young on August 29, 2025, at the age of 75. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by family and friends. Dale was born on November 12, 1949, in Moberly, Missouri, to Gladys and Leonard Young.

Dale graduated from Centralia Public School in 1967. He earned his BSEE, Magna Cum Laude, from the University of Missouri-Columbia’s School of Engineering and his MBA from Webster University.

In addition to his academic achievements, Dale started his working career at age ten as a paper boy in Centralia. He credited many of his business skills to his four years working as a paper boy. In his teen years he worked summers mowing the Centralia cemetery. In 1969, Dale enlisted in the US Air Force as an Airman Basic. He resigned from the military in 1977, at the rank of Captain. After resigning his military commission, Dale began working in the nuclear power industry. His nuclear power career began training Naval personnel how to operate the nuclear reactors on submarines. During his thirty-three-year career in the nuclear industry, he held leadership positions at Callaway, Robinson and Crystal River Nuclear Power Plants. He most enjoyed mentoring young engineers and improving plant conditions. He ended his career as Site Vice President of the Crystal River Florida Plant. After fifty years of working, Dale retired to enjoy time with his children and grandchildren, golf with friends, and travel the world. In retirement, as in most of his life, Dale most enjoyed sharing every part of his life with Sherry, his best friend and wife of fifty-seven years.

Dale was pre-deceased by his parents Gladys and Leonard Young and his brother Richard Young. He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon (Sherry) Rumbaugh Young, daughters Laura Shimel and Heather Wylie, and sons-in-law Bruce Shimel and Michael Wylie, grandchildren Kaitlyn Wylie, Andrew Shimel, Nicholas Wylie, Benjamin Shimel, Christopher Jacob Shimel, numerous nieces and nephews and sister Virginia Rasmussen.

Join us for a Celebration of Dale’s Life at Spirit Hall, 20650 N Hwy 124, Centralia, Missouri 65240 on Sunday, October 12, 2025 from 2pm – 5pm. Food and drinks will be provided.

A Celebration of Life in Dunnellon, Florida will be planned at a later date.
