Damaris Joye Burge passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2025, in Dothan, Alabama. Damaris was born March 30, 1956, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, to J.R. and Annie Mae Burge and lived in Panama City for many years before recently moving to New Brockton, Alabama. She worked for twenty-four years as a Creative Services Manager for the Panama City News Herald before her retirement in 2022. She was a member of the Midway Baptist Church of Panama City where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She also loved playing cards, sharing cooking recipes as well as teaching her niece Anna how to bake “tea cakes” which was a yearly Christmas tradition between them.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, Johnny Odell Watson; her second husband, Phillip McCormick and her mother, Annie Mae (Alford) Burge.
Survivors include her husband, Phillip Michael Carroll along with her fur babies, Peanut, Ace, River and Buddy; her father, J.R. Burge; her sister, Robin McNamara and her husband Michael; her brother, Jimmie Burge and his wife Tracy; her brother in law, Gregory Carroll and his wife Peggy; her sister in law, Donna Carroll Odom and her husband Terry; her step daughter, Stacy McCormick; her nieces, Anna Fralick, Julie Burge, Brie Durrance, Robyn Myers and Heather Porrata; step grandsons, Blake and Cole McCormick, her aunt, Sachiko “Happy” Alford; her aunt, Tommie Landrum; her cousins, Johnny Alford, Joe Alford and his wife Sandy, James Alford and his wife Debra; Stephen Hammonds and his wife Debbie, Debi Bouchard, Rudy Burge and his wife Karen and many other extended family and friends.
Services to honor Damaris’ life will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Blountstown with a time of visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
