Obituary published on Legacy.com by Grace Memorial Chapel at Memory Gardens on Aug. 5, 2025.
On August 3rd at 7:29 AM, our beloved Dan Wallace Goyen Sr. stood tall and walked into Heaven-completely whole, able to see, think, and hear clearly once again.
Dan was born on November 30, 1936, to the late Hub and Harriet Goyen. He is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Genelle Posey Goyen. He is also survived by his three children: Danny Wallace Goyen Jr. and wife Becky Goyen, Ty Goyen and wife Gloria Goyen, and daughter Dannelle Goyen Woody and husband Tom Woody.
Dan was a guiding light and an extraordinary "Pappy" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by seven grandchildren: Daniel Goyen and wife Claire, Katie Goyen Mallette, Chad Goyen and wife Keri, Jake Goyen, Hannah Woody and husband Kenny, Tyler Woody and wife Cinnamon, and Brock Woody.
He also leaves behind six great-grandchildren: Haley Mallette, Ila Mallette, Avery Goyen, Hank Goyen, Everett Goyen, and Hadley Goyen.
Dan is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Beth Goyen and Joyce Goyen, along with numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
He is preceded in death by his two brothers, Gary Goyen and Hubby Goyen-who are most certainly celebrating his arrival in Heaven, joyfully reunited once again, but probably already getting into mischief.
Dan leaves behind a legacy of faith, generosity, and love. He was most known for his giving heart and his deep love for Jesus. He was an upright man, a pillar of strength, and a living example of how one should walk through life with grace and humility.
Dan graduated from Patty Welder High School and earned an associate's degree from the University of Houston–Victoria. In July 1972, Dan and his beloved wife Genelle founded Goyen Electric, which remains a thriving business to this day.
He was a gifted athlete and an exceptional coach-most notably leading his teenage Little League team to a Texas State Championship in 1975. He served as president of the Victoria Chapter of the Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship for two years. A true apostle, Dan started two churches right from his own living room. He served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher, elder, and preacher of many life-changing sermons.
An avid outdoorsman, Dan loved fishing, hunting, and playing golf. He had an incredible green thumb, nurturing a flourishing pecan and citrus orchard that is still thriving this year. He also loved the mountains of Colorado and had a passion for rock hunting. He even took jewelry-making classes to craft pieces from the stones he found.
Above all, Dan loved people. He gave selflessly and often-so much so that Genelle would come home to find that he had given away her car to someone in need. His absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him. He touched countless lives and carried a simple but powerful message: "Jesus loves me, and I love Him back."
Dan adored his wife, and together they shared a storybook marriage built on prayer, devotion, and unconditional love. They knew how to go to battle for each other in their prayer closets.
Dan Wallace Goyen Sr. leaves behind a hole in many hearts, but he also leaves a changed world. We are certain that when he entered Heaven, there was a sea of people waiting for him-many who are there because of him. And we know with confidence that he heard the words: Well done, my good and faithful servant Matthew 25:23
