Dana Merrill McKean, A resident of Duncan Falls, Ohio; was born August 19, 1954, in Columbus, Ohio. He was the son of Stanley Charles McKean of Gallipolis and Roberta Claudia (Richardson) McKean of Byesville. He passed away peacefully at Genesis Hospital, Zanesville, with his wife, Mary Lou by his side on the 8th day of July, in the year of our Lord, 2025.
Dana lived most of his life in Ohio and near Zanesville, Ohio. He graduated from Zanesville High School in 1972. Dana received an Associate’s Degree in Architecture and Building Construction from Muskingum Area Technical College/Zane State College. He also had a specialized studies at The Ohio State University, Kent State University, Franklin University, and Ohio University, Zanesville. Dana was employed over the years at Fair Oaks Baptist Church, Brenner’s Restaurant, General Electric, Fischer Body, White Westinghouse, Grove City Country Club, The JC Penny Co., Ameriprise Financial Advisors, Muskingum County Job and Family Services and retired as member of the National Association of Disability Representatives practicing as a Social Security Disability Law Representative.
He was a member of the Market Street Baptist Church where he served over the years as teacher in the Peacemakers/Truthseekers Sunday School Classes, Usher, Board Moderator and Chairman of Property. He was an avid fisherman, photographer, marksman, music lover, woodworker, and heirloom gardener.
Dana is survived by his wife, Mary Lou (Huhn) McKean whom he married on June 21, 1986; a son, Tyler Dana McKean of Rochester NY; a daughter, Karen Sue Fitzgerald of Zanesville; grandchildren, Bailey (Nicholas) Wilkes Saxton, Cole Hartley, Riley Hartley, Brina Hartley, Chase Fitzgerald, Aleiah Fitzgerald; and great-grandson, Hudson Saxton.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by, Russell Fitzgerald.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until time of funeral service starting at 12:00 NOON on Monday, July 14, 2025, at the Market Street Baptist Church, 140 N. 6th Street, Zanesville, OH. 43701 with Pastor Brian Owens officiating.
Per Dana’s wishes a cremation will be held under the direction of the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Market Street Baptist Church Window and Property Fund at 140 N. 6th Street, Zanesville, OH. 43701.
