Daniel J. DeBacker, 69, of New Plymouth, passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Maple Hills in McArthur. He was born March 20, 1956, in Escanaba, Michigan, the son of the late Louise S. Heynssens DeBacker.
Growing up on a small farm in Bucyrus, Ohio, Dan learned much about farming and hunting from his grandfather, Emil DeBacker. He attended Colonel Crawford High School and worked at General Electric in Bucyrus, Ohio and Logan, Ohio, retiring in 2005. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and took trips out West and to Canada and Alaska. After moving to the Logan area, he bought a small farm to carry on his love of farming, hunting, and nature. Dan was an avid gun enthusiast. He will be missed by his friends at Jack’s, where he regularly had breakfast. He will also be missed by close friends Rob Meyer and Mark Ross.
Dan is survived his son, Caleb DeBacker; sister, Bonnie (Steve) Howard; nephew, Scot Howard; and great nephew, Calvin Howard.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Patrick and William; and niece, Heather Howard.
Dan will be cremated and a celebration of life will be at a later date. Private burial will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in Bucyrus.
