Darla Monica Tong, 69, of the Town of Sevastopol, was called Home to be with the Lord, early Monday morning, June 30, 2025 at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay.
She was born October 10, 1955 in Sturgeon Bay, the daughter of Darlene Sylvia (Monica) Ullmann. Darla attended grade school in Egg Harbor and went on to graduate from Sevastopol High School with the class of 1973.
She was united in marriage to Thomas "Buzzy" Kevin Tong III on September 7, 1974 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Institute.
Darla started working for Peterson Builders, Inc. (PBI) in Sturgeon Bay while in high school. Darla continued working there upon graduation and remained with them until 1991.
She earned her Associate Degree in Supervisor's Management from Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (1986). Darla went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts from Lakeland College in Sheboygan (1989). She continued her education at the University of Wisconsin - Stout, earning a Master of Science in Vocational Education (1994).
Darla started teaching business courses in 1990 at Northeastern Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC) in Green Bay and eventually taught at the NWTC Sturgeon Bay campus. Though formally retiring form NWTC in 2011, she continued teaching part-time until full retirement in 2020. She also owned and operated her computer networking administration business, Sage Strategies, helping local businesses in the community.
Darla remained a longtime and active member of Saints Peter and Paul Parish in Institute, where she served as a Trustee for various church, school boards, and committees. She was an avid reader, especially of murder mysteries. Darla had a passion for landscaping and tending to the flowers in her garden - peonies, lilacs, tiger lilies, gladiolas, and yellow roses. She loved hummingbirds and seeing them at the feeders she had throughout her yard. Darla enjoyed remodeling projects - woodworking, drywalling, painting, and tiling. She liked golfing at Maxwelton Braes in the Town of Baileys Harbor and Cherry Hills in the Town of Sevastopol, among other courses.
Darla will be deeply missed by her husband, Tom, with whom she shared nearly 51 years of marriage; daughters, Amber Konrad of Sturgeon Bay and Apryll Tong of Green Bay; granddaughters, Isabel (fiancé, Bjorn Kettering) Tong, Silviamae (fiancé, Jerad Mertens) Konrad, and Emilie Konrad; sister, Diane (Robert) Whitcomb of Hannibal, NY; siblings-in-law, Terry (Jan Larsson) Tong and Peggy Tong, both of Sturgeon Bay, and Eric Tong of Evansville; nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Darlene (Herbert) Ullmann; parents-in-law, Thomas Jr. and Doris (nee Birmingham) Tong; siblings-in-law, Joel Tong and Marion Tong; and other relatives.
Darla's life will be honored with a Mass of Christian Burial prayed at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Institute, 4767 E. Dunn Road,
Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235 with Fr. Matthew Rappl and Fr. Robert Stegmann concelebrating. She will be laid to rest in Bayside Cemetery in the Town of Sevastopol.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 7, 2025 at Huehns Funeral Home, 1414 Michigan Street,
Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235 and at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:40 a.m.
