Darrell Tracy Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jul. 7, 2025.
West Stockholm: Darrell W. Tracy, 81, passed away peacefully in the early morning of July 4, 2025, with his loving family by his side. At his request, there will be no services. Burial will be held privately at the West Stockholm cemetery.
Darrell is survived by his daughters, Jill (Aaron) Sabre and Nicole Tracy (Stephanie Claxton); his grandchildren, Morgan, Abigail, Quinn, Liam, Sheadon and Finlay; his brothers Duane and Darren (Lisa); his best friend Nancy Kingsley, whose companionship he was blessed to enjoy for over 40 years; her children Scott (Doreen) Kingsley, Kevin (Becky) Kingsley and Cindy (John) Lundin; and his nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Dawn Tracy and his sister-in-law Jackie Tracy.
Darrell was born in Canton, NY on June 12, 1944, the son of Warren and Viola (Peck) Tracy. He attended Potsdam High School, graduating in 1962. He enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving his country in Germany until his honorable discharge in 1965. A marriage to Minka McNamara blessed him with two daughters prior to their divorce.
Following his military service, Darrell sold insurance and worked for a time at Sears and Alcoa, before beginning work as a lineman for the New York Telephone Company (Verizon). Never one for a lot of fanfare or attention, Darrell's last day on the job was no different. Unbeknownst to even his supervisor or co-workers, Darrell had made all arrangements for retirement. He worked a full day, pulled his bucket truck into the garage, turned in all his tools and retired as a cable splicer after 30 years, much to the disbelief and confusion of everyone.
He was a past member of Little Blue Mountain Hunting Club, the Town of Stockholm Zoning Board, the West Stockholm Volunteer Fire Department and the Board of Fire Commissioners.
Darrell loved his Kubotas and Winchesters and owned several of both throughout his life. He enjoyed cutting and splitting wood, NASCAR, time at his cabin, shooting at the range and attending gun shows with his good friend Bob Dougan, Friday night dinners with Nancy and time with his family. He was a talented woodworker and made many beautiful pieces for his loved ones. He made sure that everyone in his life always had a good flashlight and gifted many throughout the years, wrapped in his signature newspaper and electrical tape. His daughters and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He treasured them and attended as many games, concerts, celebrations and important events as he could. His love and support were never ending, and he will be missed deeply by all who knew him. He was one of a kind.
Memorial contributions may be made in Darrell's memory to the West Stockholm Volunteer Fire Department.
