David James Adkins, 47, of Littlefield, Texas, passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2025. He was born on October 3, 1977, in Searcy, Arkansas to Jim Adkins and Andrea Thompson. He married Lacy Lehnert on December 21, 2002, in Seminole, Texas. David worked as a teacher for the Levelland Independent School District and was loved by his students. He was passionate about flying drones. His middle school team competed at the Air Battles Middle School Competition for 2 consecutive years and had the honor of receiving 1st place. He enjoyed racing RC cars, flying stunt kites and throwing darts. He loved cheering on his kids at all their multiple sporting events. He was known for his dad jokes. He had a great sense of humor, was very friendly, he enjoyed talking to everyone, he never met a stranger! He had a great love for baseball and was a member of the Littlefield Babe Ruth & Youth Baseball committee. He spent many hours volunteering his time working on the baseball fields for the youth and high school teams. He was extremely resourceful; he could fix anything and everything. Most of all he loved his family and was a great dad and husband. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Littlefield. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Lacy Adkins of Littlefield, Texas; his three sons, Ryan Adkins of Lubbock, Texas, Dawson Adkins of Littlefield, Texas and Dylan Adkins of Littlefield, Texas; his father, Jim Adkins of Brownwood, Texas; his mother Andrea Thompson of Lubbock, Texas; and two brothers, Michael Adkins and wife Melissa of San Antonio, Texas, and Stephen Adkins and wife Amanda of Brownwood, Texas; and numerous other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his stepfather Fred Thompson; and his grandparents, O.V. and Ruth Adkins, Omer and Jean Spurlock, and Luther and Lavinia Azbill. Celebration of life services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Grace Chapel in Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield, Texas with Pastor Tanner Wilson officiating. Arrangements are under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home.
