Southbridge: David E. Bernier, 73, of Pleasant St., passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and close friends on Saturday, July 12th, in his home after a brief battle with cancer.
He leaves his wife of 50 years, Lorna R. (McRoy) Bernier; his daughter, Ruth F. Montgomery of Southbridge; his two sisters, Janice Ashton and her husband Stephen of Southbridge and Patricia Chase and her husband Charles of Southbridge; his two grandchildren, Jasmin F. Ramos and Landon D. Montgomery; and many many loving nieces and nephews who all cherished their "Uncle Dave". He also leaves his two close friends, Armand Riel of Southbridge and David Tellier of Southbridge. He was born in Southbridge the son of the late Edmond J. and Mary A. (Palmerino) Bernier.
David was a licensed plumber and worked for Vincent Plumbing in Southbridge for over 40 years, retiring several years ago. He was a devoted member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Southbridge. He was also a member of the former Italian Club in Sturbridge.
David was an avid camper. He was also an avid NASCAR fan and was especially a fan of Dale Earnhardt, Sr.. As a fan of racing cars David took great pride in doing a full restoration of his 1969 Ford Mustang Fastback.
David loved the United States of America and had a true and passionate appreciation of those who served, fought and sacrificed for this country, especially his father who proudly served in the US Army.
The family would like to thank Dr. Paul Harrington for all of the care and compassion he gave to David and his family during his illness.
A Celebration of Life will be held for David at a later date. There are no calling hours and burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Second Chance Animal Shelter, 111 Young Rd., East Brookfield, MA 01515.
