David Murphy Obituary

David Russell Murphy, age 79, of Dayton, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Hospice of Dayton. He was born on January 25, 1946, in Wilmington, Ohio, the son of the late Glen R. and Betty (Knight) Murphy and was a graduate of Wilmington High School. In his younger years, David grew up on the family farm in New Antioch. He was the drummer for the local band "The Farraris", spent time on the Wilmington Fire Department, and had served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. David was a self-employed barber by trade and had served the Wilmington and Kettering communities for many years. Among the many things he enjoyed were showing off his 1923 Ford T-Bucket at car shows and rooting for the Buckeyes, Bengals, and Reds. He had spent several seasons visiting the Reds in Florida during spring training. David was an avid bowler who was given the nickname "Mr. 211", which ended up being adorned on his license plates. Above all, he loved his family very much. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Tish (Nick) Burkitt of Wilmington and Tami (Jeremy) George of Kettering; grandchildren, Corey Mackey, Britny (Nick) Fairchild, Courtney (Ty) Heinrich, Madison Salyers, Kayden George and Jarrett Burkitt; and his great-grandchildren, Dalton Green, Tanner Mackey, Olivia Fairchild, Jase Heinrich, and Parker Heinrich. In addition to his parents, David is preceded in death by his brother, Michael K. "Mike" Murphy, and his beloved dog, Sadie.
