DAVID ALAN WALLACE of Piedmont passed away on Monday, June 30, 2025, around 9:00 pm. He was known to many as "Rupe." David was a graduate of Piedmont High School class of 1975. Shortly after high school, he joined the United States Air Force and ended his 9½ years as a Veteran in the Alabama Air National Guard as an Electrical Power Production Technician. He served in the 5th Combat Communications Command Group and the 226th Combat Communications Command Group. Not only was he a distinguished Veteran, he was also an Electronic Mechanic for the U.S. Army at Anniston Army Depot, a contracted Armed Security Officer for the Alabama National Guard and the Department of Homeland Security for an additional 21 ½ years of civil service. He served the United States of America for a total of 31 years.
David had a prosperous career and was always considered to be a very hardworking man. He worked in machine shops at Rome Industries and Anniston Army Depot. He worked at Anniston Army Depot as an electronic mechanic in the Dragon Missile section. He was also an electronic mechanic in Intrusion Detection Systems, maintaining electronic data systems, depot security, closed circuit TV systems, and fiber-optic transmission and repair.
David was also a member of the National American Legion, the Cold War Veterans Association, a member of the Piedmont Veterans Association, a Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans, and a former Master Mason. As a youth, he was a member of the Junior Odd Fellows and a Boy Scout.
David loved his family, his country, his friends, his pets, and the University of Alabama sports for the positive recognition brought to our state. He enjoyed fishing, camping, grilling, football, and NASCAR races. Four men that he loved, respected, and held in the highest regard included John Wayne, Paul (Bear) Bryant, Ronald Reagan, and his father-In-law, Woodrow Brown.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Judy Wallace; his retired Veteran son, Tim Yongue (KayCee); grandchildren: Caitlyn Schiebelhut (Kaleb), Corey Yongue and Seth Graben; great grandson, Oliver Kash Schiebelhut; sister, Nanette Wallace; aunt, Dianne, uncle, Bill Hand; and his beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and closest friends. David was preceded in death by his parents, Rupert "Buck" and Glenna Wallace; grandparents, Claude and Florence Wallace; step grandmother, Ola Wallace; grandparents, J.T. "Tom" and Irene Allison.
David fought a hard battle with two throat cancer surgeries, two colon cancer surgeries and many more surgeries that did not relate to cancer. He also believed Jesus Christ died for his sins and has saved his soul. David Alan Wallace now seeks everlasting peace.
Funeral services for David will be Saturday, July 5, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. Rodney Ragsdale and Rev. Jerry Stewart officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday one hour prior to services. Pallbearers will be Tim Yongue (son), Corey Yongue, Seth Graben, Kaleb Schiebelhut, Jessie McKnight, and Jeremy Walker.
