David Young, 84, of Eldora, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at Eldora Specialty Care. Memorial services will be 2:00 PM on Friday, July 25, 2025 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora. Visitation will be one hour prior. Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory of Iowa Falls is caring for Dave and his family.
David Perry (Dave) Young was born February 14, 1941 to Perry Leon and Leone Ruth (Costello) Young on the family farm north of Horton, IA. At the age of 12, in 1953, he was baptized in the Baptist Church in Charles City. He attended Plainfield High School where he met his future bride and graduated in 1960.
On June 7, 1963 he was united in marriage to Joyce Ann Turner at the First Methodist Church in Waverly, Iowa. Together they raised two sons, Brian and Christopher, in and around the Waverly area. They celebrated 58 years together before Joy's passing in 2021.
Over the years, Dave was a man of many talents and worked a variety of jobs. He started out by being a farmhand on his father's farm and driving a milk truck. After moving to Waverly, he worked for the city then at a small company as a welder and truck driver. In 1985, he and Joy moved to Waterloo where he worked several jobs until his retirement in 2009. In 2010, they moved to Eldora to be closer to family.
In his spare time, Dave loved fishing, camping, woodworking and working on his wife Joy's "honey-do" list. He also spent a number of years on the Waverly Fire Department, of which his family is very proud. He also enjoyed having Brian serve with him as a Junior Firefighter. What he loved best in his later years was watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and making many friends at the care center. He was a member of the UCC in Eldora.
He is survived by his sons, Brian (Brenda) Young of Eldora and Christopher Young of Des Moines; sister, Glenna Mennega of Plainfield; brother-in-law, Jim Boelman of West Union; grandchildren, Brittany (Jason) Hampton of Eldora, Brooke (Brent) Ibeling of Ackley, Gaje (Ashley) Young of Wisconsin, Brady (Kelli) Young of Eldora and Bradley (Becky) Young of Eldora and great-grandchildren: Sloane, Ozias and Ward Hampton, Madison and Natalie Ibeling, Dexton and Westley Young, Sadie and Warren Young and Reagan, Otis, and Hudson Young and many nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyce; brother-in-law, Paul Mennega; sister- and brother-in-law, Flo and Dick Fisher; sister-in-law, Eddie Boelman; brother- and sister-in-law, Les and Kathy Turner; brother-in-law, Walter Turner and great-granddaughter, Azayla Hampton.
