Deborah Ann Gilbert, affectionately known as Debbie, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 18th, 2026, at the age of 70. Born on December 16th, 1955, in Syracuse, New York, Debbie was a cherished resident of Oswego, NY.
Debbie was a proud graduate of Mexico High School and went on to serve her country with distinction in the United States Army at Fort Bragg, NC. Her military career concluded with an honorable discharge, having achieved the rank of E-5 Sergeant. Debbie then broke barriers as the first female insulator with Local 30, paving the way for countless women to pursue careers in the trades.
A devoted mother and grandmother, Debbie's life philosophy was rooted in love and kindness. Her children, Erin and Jason, and her beloved grandchildren, Ezra and his fiancée Brianna, Johanna, and twins Luna and Luka, were the center of her world. Debbie's brothers, Tim and Mark, were her lifelong companions and supporters.
Debbie was a talented artist, known for her exquisite acrylic tapestries that will continue to inspire and be cherished for generations. Her battle with cancer over the past 30 years was marked by resilience and courage, leaving her with mere battle scars and a legacy of strength.
Those who knew Debbie will remember her infectious laughter and her immense heart. She was a beacon of kindness, always ready to lend a helping hand, even during her own times of struggle. Whether it was a friend, family member, or someone in greater need, Debbie was there, offering support and comfort.
Debbie's legacy of love, strength, and kindness will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. In honor of Debbie's remarkable life, a Celebration of Life event will be held at a later date.
